Advice for HS Girl's Soccer Player (GK)

It can be done, but it isn’t easy. My son is taking Chem, Bio & Physics with labs this semester.

And at this point, with a 9th grader, I would advise to cast a wide net, and not worry about potential conflicts over majors. Kids change a lot, and thinking of a nursing major now doesn’t mean that’s what they will end up majoring in 4 or 5 years later.

If nursing is in fact what she ends up being interested in then the advice to talk to coaches in a couple of years is excellent (and that’s when you’ll be narrowing down the pool of schools)

Yes, the way it works in D3 (which is where my experience lies) is that the rules first define “prospective student athlete” as “a student who has started classes for the ninth grade.” Rule 13.02.7. There are some others that would fall under the definition but they don’t seem material here.

The Rules also define “electronic communication,” Rule 13.02.10, but I think we all know that email is an electronic communication.

The Rules then state clearly, "There are no restrictions on the timing for electronic communication (e.g., telephone call, electronic mail, Instant Messenger, text messages or facsimiles) to prospective student- athletes. (Adopted: 8/4/21). Rule 13.02.10.1. It is possible that a given league may impose greater restrictions than the NCAA rules.

Thus, go ahead and email away to D3 coaches and you can expect a response. There truly are some wonderful D3 opportunities for sports and academics in D3.
