Advice on good places to vist in Connecticut, RI and Mass?

New Haven is now only semi-divey but it’s not Princeton nice either. Also don’t bother to wait inline three hours for the famous pizza–it’s not that great. Yale has a pretty unwelcoming campus–lots of locked gates and security. The security it there for a reason.

Thank you for the welcome rosrosen!

Is the heat in new england humind? I am having trouble working out what to pack. I hear the weather changes quite quickly many times a day … maybe i will just go for layers.

My dad has decided we are going to visit his friends in washington now. Why do parents change plans without consulting kids even when we have a fair amount of energy invested?

Ok i realise i am on the wrong forum to whinge lol… i am just a little annoyed since i have spent so long trying to work out our new england trip and then he changes plans without consulting me, i realise i should get over it.

So now we have two nights to get around conneticut, RI and cape cod. Am i right in suspecting this may be a little tight or have i misjudged the time/distance involved?

I suppose washington will be a good place to vist too :)

Yes, the heat is rather humid, though perhaps not as humid in tropical countries.

D.C. is also a very good place to visit, and hotter and more humid than NE.

If in CT, I’d avoid southern Fairfield County (Bridgeport-Greenwich stretch) like the plague; the rest of the state is very beautiful though.

If you’re into hiking/mountains, I’d strongly suggest Mt. Greylock in NW Mass. A road goes to the summit if you’re not into the 2000’ climb.

ok thanks for that … its good to know where to avoid!

thanks so much everyone for all your help, i think im all set fir that part of new england now :)

I dont think i need to bug for advice about washington as i am assuming there is a freeway strait there and back to NY.

Southern Fairfield County is some of the most expensive real estate in the country. Stamford, the major SW CT city has more Fortune 500 firms headquartered there than anyplace outside NYC. I95, which runs along the coast is not a nice road … overcrowded and lots of trucks. Also lots of exits, as in one about every mile (or even less). Given a choice, I would take the Hutchinson River Parkway to the Merritt Parkway and avoid 95.

Driving NYC to DC and back is not a bad trip – athough the NJ Turnpike is not the garden spot of the garden state. From NYC to Boston is only about 3-4 hours of drive time, so you should have plenty of time to stop and visit a few sites.

And there are LOTS of things to see in DC. LOTS of stuff not to miss.

We want a trip report when you arrive at school!

haha ok i will give a trip report  I will try to squeeze in any college information i find to try to make it relevent to the website… TRY being the operative word.

about 7 weeks to go… seems so far, yet so close!
