You can learn more about the algorithms in 510 if you want. I took 310 and 510 simultaneously which was nice. In one you get more of the modeling and in the other you get the algorithms.
Although I’ll not be attending Michigan this fall, it was one of my top choices until couple weeks ago. Your advice, aside from the institution specific ones, still apply to all incoming freshmen across the nation.
I visited Michigan twice this year and I loved almost everything about the school, even the part where I thought I would hate huge school, I came to see myself there. I sat as a pre-frosh at IOE professor Shen, and apparently she is really well-liked by many IOE students.
Thanks for your input!
In addition to the resume comments above, let me suggest that all students create a profile on LinkedIn. With sucha profile, you can mirror the key attributes of your resume. There are a huge number of Michigan alums on the site and they will provide you with valuable network contacts, both domestically and internationally. LinkedIn is the professional/career analogue to facebook and it will make you searchable by employers. I’ve actually received a number of queries and one job by people finding me, not the converse. Note that I have zero connection, financial or otherwise, to LinkedIn.
