Serious question- If AA is based on historical disadvantages of a race, why aren’t Chinese students getting a bump after all of the disadvantages they’ve had in America especially things like the horrible conditions for railroad construction workers and the Chinese Exclusion Act? Asian immigrants(and immigrants in general) had awful living conditions and barriers in the job market for a long time during the early 1900s. Doesn’t this count as historical racial barriers?
I see the diversity argument but when it comes to being “hisotrically disadvantaged”, I don’t see how Asians don’t get included in these discussions.
Exactly. It has nothing to with being Asian or not. If you have the body and the skill set, you will get offers from schools. Also, there are many Asian student athletes out there. At my school, there are many Asians in aquatic activities, tennis, and fencing. So clearly Asian parents are not simply unaware or ignorant to college sports and the doors it opens.
@class0f2017 With regards to college admissions, the population of Asians in elite colleges in disproportionate to the amount of Asians in America. Asians represent less than 5 percent of the population, and yet at elite colleges, they represent anywhere from 20 to 40%.
