Affordable Care Act Scene 2 - Insurance Premiums

Yay!!!

Just want to add my good thoughts to dstark. Among the greatest developments of my lifetime are the incredible medical advances we have seen in curing cancer for all the people who would have had a different outcome in the not-too-distant past. Hopefully, one day we can totally eradicate this dreadful illness for everyone.

Still haven’t talked with Anthem; hopefully it will happen Friday.

"(And this was pre-ACA, so not due to Obamacare.) " Arabrab

People being denied the drugs they need will probably not get any easier under Obamacare.

Woohoo DStark. That is wonderful news. Cheers to a continued all clear!

Good news Dstark.

Thanks again everybody.

This is obviously not a bug issue, but I signed up for a policy at Anthem a couple of weeks ago and I have still heard nothing from them. Not even an email. This wasnt an exchange plan and I will take care if this but I am wondering, when you sign up for an exchange plan, is there some kind of notification that you have signed up for something?

The Cal numbers are growing. Conservativy, Looks like there can be over 300,000 signups in December in California.

Havent seen any national numbers.

Here’s a compilation of the signup numbers nationally and for the states, gleaned from news stories:

[Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) Health Insurance Signup Chart](http://acasignups.net/)

The link has issues.

I am more interested in the December numbers. Does that link I cant access have December numbers?

For example, the first two days of this week there were 15,000 signups a day in California. Those are big numbers.

The signups are growing exponentially.

Good new, dstark!

As far as the back end of the Covered California system, there was an article in today’s LA Times about the troubles there.

You ought to contact the carrier to make sure. I’ll find the article and link it.

dstark- happy for you and your family.

Ok…I am going to thank everybody.

lerkin, lookingforward, arabrab, zoosermom, texaspg, interesteddad, emilybee, poetgrl, calmom, busdriver11, cartera45, flossy, Goldenpooch, kmcmom13, jbsmom, Cardinal Fang, TatinG, bluebayou and tom1944.

I hope there are no typos and I hope I mentioned everybody. Thank you.

TatinG, I didnt use an exchange.
This bugs me.

“A spokesman for Anthem said Winton’s situation appears to be an isolated case, and bills should be mailed to customers within a day or two of their enrollment.”

I have been waiting almost two weeks. I guess another phone call is due.

Another yay from me, dstark. Best wishes for continuing good health for your D!

I have not paid for my premium yet. I cannot figure out how. I will call BCBS this weekend or early next week to figure it out. The exchange said I should be getting something in my email or mail (can’t remember). Nothing yet.

Romani… Thanks.

So you received nothing yet.

Is there a reason why there cant be an email confirmation?
If we buy something from Amazon, we receive a confirmation.

Yeah and then Amazon won’t leave me alone. You’ve called for a verbal confirmation?

I have a verbal so far. I guess that is good enough. :)

Not really-- they tell you that you will be getting an invoice from the insurance company but at least for me I am still getting periodic reminders from Covered California that I should still sign up for a plan, even though I picked one the first week of November.

I called Blue Shield, confirmed my enrollment, and made my binder payment with a credit card over the phone, along with a confirmation number. So I’m set.

Meanwhile, my grandson has a true medical emergency in Washington state. If I lived there, I would definitely want to be on Medicaid! (Or at least on CHIP – it’s possible that the program for kids is better than what adults get). The poor kid broke his leg at school! (It’s what they call a “toddler’s fracture” - apparently little kids do not get sprained ankles, instead they end up with fractured tibias). My son rushed him to the nearest hospital emergency room, which happened to be Swedish hospital, and got x-rays and splint – but called Children’s the next day and got him right in to see an orthopedist right away. So now the poor kid is in a full cast on one leg, but very happy with the free medical care thus far.

How old is he calmom? Glad they worked on it so quickly.

This is still before ACA though?

DStark – I have heard via the net of someone else who did get an email confirmation from BS, after signing up via Covered Cal – but I got nothing and the person at BS claimed that they didn’t have my email address though I checked and Covered Cal does have it. The Covered Cal web site is NOT good for reviewing or checking data – the only way you can go back to see what has already been done is to click the link to start a “change report” - even if you don’t want to change anything. But that’s the only way you can get the system to display what it has on file – there is no “view profile” or “view status” page.

I do believe that these exchange web sites were designed by idiots. They really don’t have the basic usability features that were pretty much standardized a dozen years ago.

It irks me because this is front end stuff more than back end – I understand that there is a lot of tricky stuff on the backend, but the front end stuff is pretty easy – it seems that there is a big disconnect between the programmers and the designers.

My grandson is age 3. I don’t think things will change for him after ACA – he’s been covered via CHIP since he was about 10 months old. When he was born, my son had insurance through his work - but my son got laid off the following year. Income levels to qualify are pretty high – I think about 275% of FPL. My son is now in grad school and will be getting Medicaid for himself come January – right now he literally has a negative income (expenses greater than monthly income – of course he is relying on student loans to make up the difference) – but he’ll complete his Master’s in June, so hopefully he’ll find a job relatively quickly and get employer coverage – which may or may not cover grandson, depending on premium costs.

DStark – do what I did: call, get your policy number and put the January payment on a credit card – it’s worth the peace of mind.
