Affordable Care Act Scene 2 - Insurance Premiums

It seems like it could be really hard to figure out one’s salary sometimes. You don’t know if you’re going to lose your job or get a raise. Maybe you’ll get a bonus, maybe your company will go out of business. Very little is certain, even for those who feel that it is. I don’t know how one makes an accurate forecast of next year’s salary.

Yes, but “losing a job” is a change of life event that allows you to switch plans or go on the exchange after the open enrollment period. I’m not sure about getting a raise, but I think it would be along the same lines. Neither of these are my situation.

Ah, I see, they have their certain triggers. Of course, in the real world, people know that your income going up or down significantly, no matter how it happens IS a change of life event. A better (or worse) job than you expected to get, more forced overtime than you’d planned (or less)…it can be hard to control and predict.

Though I’m sure you’ll be in the six figure salary range with company paid insurance soon, so you can kiss that exchange plan good bye.

The exchanges allow you to make update your income information to report changes whenever you want. Also, you don’t have to take the full subsidy up front – so you can leave yourself some wiggle room from the start.

LOL. Yes, in public health.
In sexual health no less. That’s clearly where the money is ;)

ETA: Especially with these lovely stats to go off of: http://www.sph.umich.edu/careers/pdfs/HBHE_2012.pdf

You wait and see…there are ways to nourish your interests, no matter what they may be, that can be monetarily rewarding. Hey, the CEO of PP makes over 400K, that’s no chump change (but probably a lot of work).

That’s fair.

Besides, I’m moving out to Washington… maybe that’ll improve my job prospects ^.^

Most definitely.

Plus, you can wear sweats everywhere you go, and nobody will care. Definitely a serious bonus. That is, as long as you are talking about Washington state, as opposed to DC. If you’re going to DC, yeah, probably lots of jobs, but WAY too much dressing up. And all those stinking politicians!

Ew no, not DC.

The one with the sweats :).

Yay! Samurai says she might be moving here too. This could be fun, but I’ll believe you guys are here when it actually happens! You will really love it.

I hope it happens, soon. ;)

^ Ditto .

You have a little time before finishing grad school, though!

Hope you all had a nice Christmas, for my cyber friends who celebrate it!

Very, very little time lol.
And I’m hoping for a west coast internship this summer so maybe sooner than I thought (at least a temporary move)

Just want to wish everyone on this thread who celebrates a belated Merry Christmas!!

Romani - Is your master’s only one year or three semesters?

I was reading a story about various fees that are included in the health insurance which go to fund the law as well as other initiatives buried in there. I went googling to see if I can find a facts only document and found this.

http://chcnevada.coventryhealthcare.com/web/groups/public/@cvty_regional_chcnevada/documents/newsletter/c082317.pdf

It sounds like anyone buying on healthcare.gov has to pay a 3.5% exchange user fees. I am curious why the fee is not reduced when someone goes directly to the insurance company. Are they charging the fee no matter where the metals are being bought?

Texas- it’s 2 years (4 semesters + a summer internship between the 2 years).

That is as long as an MBA. Do you need to do a thesis?

Sounds like you can’t move before June 2015.

I’m getting my MPH. 2 years is standard for a full-time MPH program. Some are 18 months but for certified programs, they’re the minority.

Actually, now that I think about it, I probably won’t be able to move until late June. I graduate late April and I’m getting married early June 2015 in MI.

Interesting. Why do they make it one year for the MD students? Are they giving them credit for many of the medical school classes? Do you see many medicine students in your classes?
