Affordable Care Act Scene 2 - Insurance Premiums

What it’s like to work for a car dealership:
[129 Cars | This American Life](http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/513/129-cars)

I’m not sure that “best” to work for is saying that much in that particular industry. It’s a job, and it probably beats working for McDonald’s – but probably not the line of work you want to be in if you place a high priority on your employee benefit package.

So today I went on Anthem’s website and used the provider search tool to see if Cedar Sinai is in-network (tier 2 hospital), and it didn’t show up at all. What a joke. Who the heck knows what providers are in Anthem’s 2014 network.

I was at the post office today and there were two windows open for a line of at least 20 people. I thought to myself the govt that runs this operation is now intricately involved in my healthcare. God help us!

The insurance companies have the ability to grant extensions if they want.

People aren’t going to have their applications “voided” if they are dealing with systems like romani describes with the insurance company being unable to process payments. The companies will do whatever they need to do to give their new customers an opportunity to pay.

I tried Cedars on Anthem’s provider list 10 minutes ago.
Found nothing. :)

My post office never has long lines. You should move. ;)

GP, the “government” hasn’t run the post office since 1970 – it functions as an independent agency. See [Postal Reorganization Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Postal Reorganization Act - Wikipedia)

OK… so I just went on my BCBS account again and it’s NOW showing the bill for the Exchange plan that I signed up for (but didn’t pay for) and not the one I’ve already paid (the one to keep my old plan).

This is ridiculous. I paid for my old plan, through Jan 31st, but now it’s showing that I cancelled that plan. UGH! I hate insurance companies!

Romani… Echhhhhh.

“UGH! I hate insurance companies!”

But not the law that caused these problems.

As screwed up as the insurance companies were in the past, since Oct 1 the level of chaos and disarray has skyrocketed. The insurance companies I use to deal with are models of efficiency compared to what we have now.

No, GP, I have had problems with insurance companies for YEARS- well before the ACA.

This is NOTHING new. NOTHING. People who want to hate the law just put on blinders.

Here’s the difference: Before Oct 1, with some persistence on my part, I could always find someone to answer my questions accurately. That is no longer true.

Somehow I guess that most people are not judging the entire ACA on whether GP can find answers to his questions in December 2013.

No, that is not true.
They have to abide by the NEW regulations created by Obamacare. That is the whole point of the all the new systems and regulations created.

They can chose to ignore those regulations and hope that they don’t run into an issue later with the bureaucracy of the government.

from the article I cited earlier:

“It is sending invoices and email reminders to those who haven’t yet sealed the deal. If payment isn’t made by New Year’s Eve, PHP (insurance company) has been told by federal officials that it must void the application.”

GP - do you have insurance for January?

CF, as someone with group insurance who did not have her insurance cancelled and was not faced with trying to replace it, you are probably in less of a position than me to judge ACA.

Ccdaddio, your link was dated Dec 5.

There have been changes since then in many states.

Texas, I got a three month extension until March 31 for my pre-ACA plan, although I am not sure if the extension will happen because I have not received a bill for January yet. I will probably be calling BS on Jan 2 to see if I am still insured.

@dstark

Have there been changes to the ACA since Dec 5th? That is what is relevant. The law.

I don’t know why people think that States are free to ignore what the law actually says.

“although I am not sure if the extension will happen because I have not received a bill for January yet.”

:)

Another person that just signs up for health insurance for fun and doesnt pay. ;)

Must be the exchanges fault you havent received a bill GP. Oh wait. You didnt purchase an exchange plan. I would trash Blue Shield but I know S. Jacobs.

Are you saying that I’m not affected by the ACA? I am. My son can stay on our policy for three more years. His getting a job that provides insurance is unlikely, and now we don’t have to worry about him being uninsurable if something happens.

Plus, my niece and her husband, who don’t have much income, can now get insurance. Maybe I’ll become a great-aunt because my niece wouldn’t have to worry about health care during her pregnancy, and she could get health care for my great-nephew or great-niece. Maybe.

Plus, readmission penalties. I love them.

Ccdaddio, Anthem Ca changed the payment due date to Jan 10. I am pretty sure other insurance companies have changed dates. Covered Ca decided to look at apps that were started and not finished before Dec 24. Another 19,000 people may get to sign up.

I wonder if those 19,000 people will pay? :).

I think acasignups.net is a pretty good site. Looks like some states have changed dates.
