Affordable Care Act Scene 2 - Insurance Premiums

bclintock, Sharon was screwed by Obamacare. The hospital and doctor were in the network pre-Obamacare. This happened because of the crummy Obamacare networks.

Re the 5.5, is anyone else reporting this with facts? And the quote is: The money, outlined in President Barack Obama’s proposed budget for the fiscal year that begins in October, is designated to help insurers who-

How do I see this is NOT from what CF says? Doesn’t this budget contain info from both sides of the ledger? All the article seems to say is that certain insurers could get X . And that:

The administration expects to collect enough from profitable insurers to cover the costs.

GP, I re-read your post. Having re-read it, and since what you say is clearly contradicted by the very article you posted, I’m wondering why you feel it necessary to mislead us about what the article says. May I point out that budgets have line items for expenses, and they also have line items for revenues? The mere fact that a budget has an expense does not in itself imply that the program with the expense is a money loser. For evidence, I give you the IRS: certainly the government spends money on the IRS, and yet as a whole, the IRS is a revenue source.

<a href=“$5.5 Billion for Obama’s Contested Risk Corridors”>$5.5 Billion for Obama’s Contested Risk Corridors;

Here’s another one. It depends on the risk pools which are apparently not looking so good right now.

CF, it is confusing but can you cite me a govt source showing the $5.5 billion of revenues in the 2015 budget. As Flossy said, it depends on the risk pools which are looking much worse than the CBO projections.

It is too early too tell about the risk corridors just like the article flossy linked says.

GP, since you are so sure… Can you provide a link to the budget?

By the way… 5.5 billion isnt a lot of money.

We get 2 million more sign ups I think we will be ok.

I would love to know how many people really kept their cancelled plans.

I don’t have to disprove what you said. You’ve already done it. You already posted an article that disproves what you said, and you’ve posted no evidence whatsoever in support of your claims.

If you would happen to have any evidence that what you say is true (despite the article denying it) please do offer that evidence. So far, you’ve got nothing.

http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Health-Overhaul-Canceled-Policies/2014/03/05/id/556258</a></p>

"It’s not clear how many people would actually be affected by the latest change. About half the states have allowed insurance companies to extend cancelled policies for a year under the original White House transition plan. The policies usually provided less financial protection and narrower benefits than the coverage required under the law. Nonetheless, the skimpier insurance was acceptable to many consumers because it generally cost less.

“It’s not likely to affect a large number of people but it certainly avoids difficult anecdotes about people having their policies canceled,” said Larry Levitt of the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, an expert on insurance markets. “I think it’s a small and dwindling number of people who are affected.”

It’s also not known if policyholders will find any financial relief if they are allowed to stay with their extended policies. Insurers in several states where extensions were allowed for 2014 have said they planned to hike the cost of those plans."

Funny thing: if you can’t count on govt predictions for gain, how can you count on predcitions for loss?

This particular issue involves note of one side of Congress- I suspect we’re up against TOS again. Maybe we drop it. But read Flossy’s link more closely.

This seems safe to post, form a link off Flossy’s article; you can find the fuller quote: *A joint analysis by the CBO and Congress’s Joint Committee on Taxation found that in the coming years, the government will pay out an estimated $8 billion to insurers as part of the risk corridor program. That will be offset, however, by an estimated $16 billion paid back to the government by health insurers. The CBO had previously projected that the risk corridors would have no net impact on the budget. *

dstark is posting newsmax stories now?

I didnt see anything too offensive in the
link.

I would love to know how many cancelled plans are going to be renewed.

Maybe we will get that info from the insurance companies some day.

This is getting comical. So the Administration extended the deadline for these cancelled plans for no reason. You think they would have done this if there weren’t a tidal wave of dissent from voters and enormous pressure from senators and representatives up for reelection in Nov. Many people want their pre-Obamacare plans because they’re cheaper and they get to keep their doctor. It’s not rocket science.

Guess who’s going to get screwed as a result of this action. People who weren’t allowed to keep their plans and every unsubsidized person who is forced to buy an Obamacare plan. Because we are keeping more healthy people out of the Obamacare pools, anyone who didn’t get the extension is going to pay higher premiums. Talk about fairness. This is the most arbitrary and capricious law I have ever seen.

GP - there is a venting thread on CC. This is not one. :)

dstark - I was under the impression newsmax is considered closer to foxnews than huffington post. :D

dstar;

I’ve always found it liberating (but also exhausting) to look at things in a non-partisan manner. For example, I also support those states not expanding Medicare. I know…tough to put someone like that in a box. :)>-

Dietz199, :).

GP, you complained about the cancelled plans being cancelled for months. For Months! Months and months! Months and months and months! Then the cancelled plans are extended. Then you complain they are extended! :)

The plans were extended because the administration wanted to see you flip your views. ;)

Texaspg, I know Newsmax is closer to Fox News. I didnt see the distortion and lies I usually see… :)

I think GP will eventually figure out he is in the wrong state as I have been telling him all along! If he was not in Cal, he could have kept his plan, and probably 2 more years!

See now we are getting somewhere…

<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?;

"Enrollment Numbers

About 4 million people have enrolled in new health plans offered through insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act, while about 1.5 million people remain in plans that don’t comply with the law, according to the Congressional Budget office. An estimated 2.5 million people received letters as the exchanges opened in October from insurers saying their noncompliant plans would be canceled, triggering a political firestorm for the president, who had repeatedly promised that people with plans they like wouldn’t have to change them because of the health law."

Americans with health coverage that predates Obamacare can stay on their plans for two more years, insurers will have an extra month to enroll customers next winter and states will get more time to decide whether to manage the law themselves, officials said. Also, a program aimed at covering financial losses for insurers will be adjusted to help ensure it doesn’t cost taxpayers"

Dstark, that sentence is an administration quote. Hardly, a fact at this point.

Flossy… I assume details will follow. :)

Dietz, I am not too thrilled with what you added to your post. I dont see what you wrote as a badge of honor.

This morning, I go to the SS office. With my daughter’s pay stubs. I have to prove my mentally challenged daughter didnt make too much money and she still qualifies for SSI. The govt is protecting the taxpayers from people like my daughter. ;)

Texaspg, GP should move out of state. An acquaintance moved out of Cal to Park City, Utah. He is very happy there.

Lower taxes. I dont know what insurance policies cost.
