Affordable Care Act Scene 2 - Insurance Premiums

It’s annoying to see Ann put forth as a person needing “affordable” insurance.
Not to mention, this use of “cancelled” as if it means all are left with no options, desperate.

Plus, I’ve been wondering why some can get so upset about Ann and skip this: *In addition, an estimated 4.8 million low-income Americans have little hope of gaining any coverage under the law because their states have decided not to expand Medicaid, *

And, States with their own exchanges, set up within existing state agencies, tend to fare best.

Two words: Tenth Amendment.

“Plus, I’ve been wondering why some can get so upset about Ann and skip this: In addition, an estimated 4.8 million low-income Americans have little hope of gaining any coverage under the law because their states have decided not to expand Medicaid,”

Because taking from some to give to others is bound to make the losers upset, especially since that was not the stated proposition.

From Emilybee’s article

Oh no…the 6 million number doesn’t really mean 6 million…don’t tell a certain someone…

I don’t mean this to be a political comment, but folks keep raising issues that need a clarification.
I said before a lot of this is an issue arising out of the federalist system. Like having 50 kids, wanting each to have their piece of “fair” and ending up with x % doing what they wish. But you have to remember the huge outcry, starting with the most conservative media, that a uniform alternative would be imposing socialism. The utter fear that engendered.

Flossy, first off, we live in a country that does resource share. Yes, losers can be upset. And I no longer know which “stated proposition” you refer to, since examples presented are often mangled by whatever recent source one found. Eg, the “promise” everyone would save $2500, which is not how it was stated.

Dietz199, lol.

I already addressed that issue.

Try reading the CBO report which I linked. ;)

Which stated proposition has not come to pass. Uhm, most of them. lol

Keeping your plan, keeping your doctor, cost-savings, universal coverage. The better question would be what is working. The endless head-counting is baffling. The only people getting a good deal are the ones getting for it free and the fact that there are so many of them is just a sad state of affairs, not something to feel good about at all imho.

Yay! more poverty. (sarcasm)

Ann Coulter’s column is full of misinformation. First of all, why did she go to the exchange in the first place, instead of picking up the phone and calling an insurance broker? She is not eligible for subsidies. All she had to do is ask an agent whether there were any available plans that cover Forest Hospital Resort and Casino, or whatever gold-plated hospital she thinks is the only one elevated enough for her august presence.

Secondly, why does she say “I guess I had heard this, but had blocked it from my memory like a rape victim unable to remember her attack – you can’t even peek at the available plans until you’ve given the government reams of personal information about yourself”? Did she miss the part on the front page of Healthcare.gov, in big letters, that says “See Plans Before I Apply”? I had no trouble finding details on plans in Palm Beach, Florida, where I believe Ms. Coulter lives, without giving any of her personal information other than an income and a birthday, both of which I made up. There are eight different insurers offering exchange policies and five different insurers offering off-exchange policies in Palm Beach. (But Ms. Coulter might be looking for insurance in one of the other locations where she has a house.)

GP allying himself with Ann Coulter. What a surprise.

^^^ I love numbers…We just did our taxes and it is amazing how the same number, put into a different column or category results in a totally different outcome. That why I love them thar numbers…we can court and romance them until they bend to our will. ;

Yeah…, you dont know the numbers. ;)

"Oh no…the 6 million number doesn’t really mean 6 million…don’t tell a certain someone… "

No, it still means 6 million have signed up. It just doesn’t reveal that much yet about who the 6 million are and what they think about ACA, premiums, etc.

What on earth does the exchange and her memory have to do with being a rape victim?

Did the exchange give her PTSD?

What?! What a waste of skin.

I like Ann and I think she is funny. However, she has never been an example of the people who need care from healthcare.gov. I would be surprised if she is not part of a boutique group with a 25k retainer (too high?) paid by one of her media employers as far as healthcare is concerned.

Btw, I find her trying to sign up as much of a media stunt as one pulled by the President. :D

Ann Coulter is self-employed. She works under contract with several media outlets and is paid per product by her book publisher but none of these arrangements would be expected to come with health insurance. Basically, she runs her own small business.

dstark: do you file taxes? If so, I’m sure you know a question which appears to have one and only one correct answer - ie - what is your income - can be manipulated and ‘massaged’ to vary (sometimes significantly) in either direction. Those with the ability will massage so that the ‘correct’ answer is in their favor.

In the end…it is all political.

Being his own employer did not stop GP from joining a group insurance. With Ann’s contacts, there are enough groups out there that will let her join and it is nothing more than a publicity stunt.

Yeah, I know someone who joined the Farm Bureau for group coverage and he is certainly not a farmer. This was pre-ACA.

First of all, why did she go to the exchange in the first place, instead of picking up the phone and calling an insurance broker?

Media stunt.

But GP was in individual market all these years and joined a group to meet his needs - post ACA.

We arent filing taxes here.

Dietz, There will be numbers. They wont necessarily be exact, but they will be close. Then they will be spun.

Some of the numbers will be spun falsely.

The 53 percent paid issue for example, Do you pay your health insurance or medical bills 6 weeks in sdvance? Most peoole dont. That is why they havent paid.
