African Safari?

This. We noticed that the guides work together so if one spots say a big cat kill, they will radio the location to their group of friend guides. The guides know where the action is likely to be vs just driving around. Also sitting in a open truck with a canopy gives you much better views than from a closed roof rental SUV.

What a great experience for your family, and for your daughters in particular! I am sure that they will forever remember the safari as a high point of their lives.

I have taken 3 trips to Africa (Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe & Kenya), and without a doubt, the travel is worth it! Happy to answer any specific questions, but dont have time right this second to share many details. I will share that we used African Pathfinder for our South Africa and Zimbabwe & Kenya trips, and highly recommend them. They are local to South Africa, but can plan a trip anywhere in Africa. https://africanpathfinder.com/

Also, if budget allows, I highly recommend flying business class. Being able to sleep on the long plane ride will allow you to be well rested at the start of your trip, which is something our family has found is essential. We will often book seats in coach, and then keep an eye on upgrade prices, and upgrade if/when we are okay with the price.

ETA: While I dont have any specific food allergies, the safari lodges we have stayed at have all asked about allergies, and have been extremely accommodating to food preference. I think if you speak with them ahead of time, you should have no problems.

We went on a multi generational trip to Kenya in 2011. The youngest cousin was 11 and she was old enough. We flew from Ca to Zurich and had a night in a hotel in Switzerland to break up the trip. Coming home we did the two flights straight through and it was hard. It’s worth it as it’s for most of us a once in a lifetime experience. We were I think about 10 of us(several didn’t make the trip and regret it). We flew from place to place which was great as we didn’t have to spend a lot of time driving. Our lodges for the most part were small and local owned and we had a main guide who was with us the entire trip. It took all the stress out of things. One of my kids is an equestrian and my MIL arranged places that offered horseback riding. I think the safari was 10 days. We did 3 lodges and 1 tent camp in the Masai Mari plus a night on each end in Nairobi.
The kids loved the guides and the staff at the lodges who would deliver hot cocoa and biscuits to their rooms each morning with a beautiful good morning in Swahili.
