I agree with you, Nrdsb4. Driving in snow is one thing, driving on ice is another. You can go slow and still slide. Black ice is very scary. Hope all you folks down South are staying warm and safe.

You’re right, nrdsb4. It doesn’t matter how much training you have. Ice is ice and there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, that you can do to drive well on it (no matter what my SUV “friends” on the road might think).
When I went off into the ditch last week we were going all of 10 mph and my car has been good in the ice. I have nearly a decade of driving experience under my belt at this point, all in snow & ice, and there’s just nothing you can really do about it.

I am so over twitter. I tried to like it. I really did. Instead I got overwhelmed trying to keep up with people’s comments. Sometimes it would be impossible to gain the context of a retweet. It is like word vomit for people who like to text.

People say dumb things, because they can. Tweets will come back and bite lots of kids in the coming years.

I have only driven on ice a handful of times. And a handful of times, I slid. Not terribly fun. Terrifying, really.

I secretly hope that when I arrive into town to visit my D and get my rental car that it is just snow in winter. I can deal with snow. Ice, not so much.

I made a Twitter in 09. I think that’s the first and last time I ever went on it. No appeal to me.

All the kiddies are using Instagram, now. And Snapchat.

Lol the only person I know who heavily uses snapchat is my dad. I’m so out of touch with people my age (not complaining… the constant picture taking is an obnoxious trend that I don’t get and don’t want to be part of lol)

Despite all evidence to the contrary, you are the oldest twenty something I know. You are basically really just masquerading as a grad student, right?

I used Snapchat a couple of times with my girl. I don’t like it that much.

Instagram is okay, but I just usually text.

First and foremost, Snapchat is a thing of the past. Second, Twitter is and will always be a hot mess that churns out some pretty hilarious (and at time educational/inspirational) comments from the masses. Third, Facebook is dead. (Hopefully, everyone at least knew the last one.)

I will always enjoy Instagram. Pictures galore! I don’t post much, you can always get some nice ideas of trends and social media events that are going about.

I don’t see anything wrong with “obnoxious picture taking”. It becomes truly obnoxious when you post ALL of your pictures taken…every minute…one right after another.

My dd goes there and my senior will be going there next year. My d that is there now said her social work class discussed this whole situation. She was so embarrassed by it all. If it were my kid who posted such rudeness, I would pull their financial support in a minute. I’d be so mortified that my kids would even consider treating someone else like that. What complete ignorant, rude fools. My dh and I are alums and we are saddened this is how our great school is being portrayed. Some day these kids will get it. Hopefully they are remorseful.

My mom says I was born an old lady lol.
Maybe I’m the female version of Benjamin Button

I hope not, the stock just jumped 18% today on the news a record quarter.

Regarding the rant, a school as big as UIUC, there are all kinds of people. I don’t think that rant will create a movement. People complain any thing, you just have to ignore it.

That’s really just not true.

Not based on earnings released yesterday

Well, I actually thought that the picture someone made up with the chancellor between two Polar explorer types was funny, and not in the least offensive. (Unless there was some nuance I missed.) The misogynist rants, totally predictable, totally disgusting. The fact that females would join in is saddening, but there are always some who put down other women to ingratiate themselves with the boys. That it segued rapidly into racism, the same. I despise twitter, I really do.

Oh, it’s true. (Socially, not economically). Perhaps, a better word is “surviving”. Facebook isn’t alive and kicking. It’s surviving. Fortunately, Facebook has made itself similar to that of water to life.

And to those who said to look at the stock, Facebook’s stock isn’t just Facebook.

No, it’s really not, Niquii.
Yes, some younger people are abandoning but it’s still alive and well. Just because your age group isn’t using it as heavily as my age group and above doesn’t mean it’s dead by any means.
MySpace is dead, Facebook is not.

It is merely surviving on society’s familiarity.

How come a company like FB being very profitable but not be familiarized with the society? Its like saying no one read newspaper or watch TV any more, but they make a lot of money. Advertisers are not dummy, if there is no readership, no one is going to pay for the ads. FB is being used by 100’s millions, it may not be of your liking.

Ok… I’ll even go with your logic (which, btw, is not supported by data but who needs facts?)… you could say the same thing about tv and phones. They’re “surviving on familiarity” as there are alternatives but those are the overwhelmingly used mediums. They’re not any more dead than FB is.
