After KP?

“Is it unusual for KP grads to go into med or law?”

Definately not the norm, you could probably count on one hand the number of graduates from any one class who go on at some point in their lives to pursue a JD or MD.

“It’s interesting that you found a KP degree was a plus for med school application- did it actually figure in your ranking for med school or was it a more informal thing?”

more of an informal thing, during the medical school application process you have to go to the school for formal interviews. It was during these interviews where I got the idea that my background was a huge plus. I wasn’t just another biology/chemistry major from (insert any state school here). I was different and it gave them something to talk about other than the boring where did you grow up/why medicine questions.

“Also, what about the 5 year service commitment after KP?”

three ways to take care of this. Be like me and be on active duty while attending medical school, wait out the five years, or get a waiver from the maratime administration (easier said than done these days)
