I also recommend taking out the knife and not checking the bag. However, make sure you pack lightly and be able to lift the carryon bag up to the overhead bin. Do not expect the flight attendants to lift your bag for you. Often, some fellow passengers will help if you are struggling with your bag. (I am thinking of buying a lighter carryon bag before my next trip. )

Beware of cheap empty travel size containers from Target – I filled them with lotions and the lotions leaked all over the ziplock bag after a couple of flights. I now only pack travel size lotions in their original containers.

Depending on the airport, some TSA people would not allow empty water bottles going through security.

I, too, am a nervous traveler. You are not the only one!

If you’re flying out of SeaTac, arrive at least two full hours before departure. That is one huge airport, and it’s known for long security lines. If you have two hours, you won’t have to stress about missing your flight.

I like to arrive about 3 hours ahead, get checked in, and then make my way to the Central Terminal. I grab some Ivar’s and then relax and enjoy the front-row seat to the runways. It’s an amazing space.

My one piece of advice is to make sure your carry-on is a bag with wheels. I’ve made the mistake a couple of times of taking a duffel bag and then having to lug it further then I thought I would have to. In fact, I think that may be the initial reason for my frozen shoulder last year.

Put the address and phone number of the place you are staying in your phone or write them down and bring it.

EXCELLENT suggestions about getting to the airport extra early. That really does take care of most of the stress. Make sure to do that for the return flight as well.

I always take a bottle of water - drink/empty it before security, put it in your purse empty and then refill from the water fountain on the other side of TSA. I’ve never been denied my empty water bottle, but if you do have to toss it, no biggie if it’s just a disposable bottle anyway. Pack lightly, have your ziplock bag of travel size cosmetics on top, and enjoy yourself!

I booked my flight for early morning & I noted that you can now bring up to 16oz of liquid items on Delta. ( oh- that is for checked baggage)

We never get there that early- but we haven’t had trouble- H did tell me that at sea-tac you either get groped or have to go through the body scanner.
I didn’t want to do either- plus I decided I can’t get away with just taking my iphone, I now want to bring my 13" laptop ( in case I can’t sleep & want to watch a movie)
At least it will be summer, ( or almost) so I won’t have to bring heavy coats or shoes.

I wonder if I wear my Vibrams- five fingers if I will still have to take them off- or if I should just wear slip ons?

I tried to talk H into going with me- but he said he has no desire to go to Detroit, not even to see a ukelele concert!

I also feel better about the flight- it made me a little nervous when I heard they had to do a visual inspection of all 737s because of rivet holes, but Delta doesn’t paint their planes which makes them easier to inspect.
