Airplane diverts to Denver with engine trouble, engine catches fire when airplane reaches gate

I feel the same way. However, in May we are going to travel to see a daughter graduate.

On the one hand it sort of seems like there are more airplane problems now than there used to be. I am wondering why, and suspect that even if someone knows they are not likely to tell the public.

On the other hand, I recall a business trip in 2000 when a colleague was taking the same flight as me, but one day earlier. Then I saw him on my flight and asked “why didn’t you fly yesterday”. His reply was that they took off, but an engine exploded so they returned to the airport. It seems that engine trouble is rare, but is not a completely new thing.
