Bird strikes have been a hazard for a very long time.

Yeah, I’ve been reading about this on my old company forum. Sounds like the pilots did a great job, and of course the main thing is that they sounded cool on the radio.
Ridiculous that Fox was showing a picture of an MD-11 that had a gear failure at FLL, and another network was showing pictures of a 757. It was a 767 at EWR, doesn’t seem too hard to get that right.
The reality is, pilots practice this every 6-9 months in the simulator. It is routine, though there are so many variables, of course in practice, it can be challenging.
