So glad you enjoyed the trip. My sister sells her ware in the Santa Fe market, and business was good. Win, win
So glad @WayOutWestMom mentioned Los Poblanos. We went to a wedding there and the location and food are magical!
It looks like NM is going to have an early winter this year. We’re expecting snow in the Sandias tonight. Maybe even some at lower altitudes. (And I don’t have my heat turned on yet! Brrrr.)
There is already snow in Taos and the Santa Fe Ski Basin. Purgatory is talking about opening its ski season a month early.
So this is a reminder to check the weather before your trip and pack accordingly.
I’m leaving Santa Fe in the morning for my cross country drive. It was REALLY cold and rainy packing the car tonight, and they say it will be snowing here overnight ending at 7 am. Since its the first snow of the season, I can’t imagine the roads are cold enough to maintain any accumulation, especially on the interstate.
My D1 and a friend drove down for the balloon fest, but only stayed one day. They headed west and north, back to Colorado and hit snow near Durango. It was snowing in northern Vermont on Sunday too!
@WayOutWestMom yes I saw it was 41 degrees today in ABQ as the high. Will definitely be alert! Early snow across the country this year. My father in MN said it was snowing yesterday (and even in MN that’s rare for mid-Oct.)
It is falling to the 40s in Maine, from the 80s last week! It’s cold to me, but thankfully, I packed lots of warm clothing. NM can get quite cold!
I’m hoping we won’t get ice or snow on roads in Maine. Predictions are it will stay above 40, so we should be ok.
@WayOutWestMom, we like it gringo spicy, and the green at Duran’s wasn’t bad. Didn’t try the red.
We ate at the main dining hall at UNM and loved the “Red or Green” station with local chile three meals a day, every day. I wish a lot more universities would respect their local cuisine like that.
@Hanna
Avoid Sadies. Their red and green will sear your tonsils off,
If UNM didn’t serve chile everyday, they would have student riots on their hands!
Chile tastes good on everything --eggs, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, cold turkey sandwiches, French fries, chicken soup…even in apple pie!
Green chile apple pie is A Thing in New Mexico. (And actually very tasty!)
Update: we had our best dinner at Los Poblanos. It was wonderful. Also, we enjoyed two breakfasts at Lush Cafe (apparently, a Better Call Saul filming site) that were great. We also had a terrific dinner at La Cocina Azul (chiles rellenos; I had brisket and DH had carne adovada).
We took the New Mexico Railrunner to Santa Fe and it worked out very well. Our ABQ hotel was walking distance to the station and downtown SF is an easy walk from the terminus as well. We had a nice lunch in SF at the Cowgirl.
