Alcohol and Cancer - Surgeon General’s Warning

Of course, those percentages in the graphic above are concerning, but if you read the small print, it says “over the lifespan by age 80”. Does that mean those are the odds if you drink those amounts continuously from legal drinking age to age 80? H and I used to have a drink on most weekend evenings, but added a few weeknights after retirement and especially during COVID when our out-of-work bartender son would practice on us. So I guess I’m not too worried and will continue to enjoy a few drinks a week.

I think that being informed is important, so keeping up with the data and participating in the conversation around the health effects of alcohol are both useful. Each person can then decide how the information informs their consumption decision, no need to attack or defend either way.

The surgeon general advised me not to drink during pregnancy, so I didn’t. Now I’m being warned there is further potential risk to my health. I will take that under advisement.

Cheers!

Tea Bag Plastics - I make an organic elderberry and ginger tea every day and pour it over a Bigelow green tea bag… Bigelow is not supposed to have plastic in it’s bags. Hope that’s correct. I guess I could always add loose leaf green tea to the immersion basket with the ederberries and sliced ginger.

I couldn’t get into the article, looks like it’s behind a pay wall. But it did bring to mind that what I don’t like about drinking alcohol is the “buzz” you get. And since I don’t drink often, that buzz comes quickly. It’s a control thing - same reason I don’t like driving in the dark - I can’t see everything! I may like the taste of the drink but I do not like not being in 100% awareness of everything around me…yes, I have a little control issue!
