alcohol on campus

During my tenure as a Tufts student, I was what Tufts pleasantly calls a “Healthy Liver.” A teetotaler, if you’ll indulge me in my affection of terms from the 1920s. Though I would not have subscribed to the Temperance movement - not my position to tell others how to live, after all.

Anyway…

It really wasn’t a big deal. I had friends from many circles, with many different interests, who had social roots in a lot of places. My best friend at Tufts was in a sorority (Shout out to Nancy), who took me to AOPi’s semi-formal event one year. I actually found myself surprised at how little I needed to explain that I wasn’t drinking (it was a question I dealt with frequently in high school). It was easy to find events and social opportunities where drinking was not part of the objective for the night.

Now for a reality check: Tufts is a college. There is drinking on college campuses. It isn’t hard to find.

But we are not the stereotypical “Party School.” If you are looking for the stereotypical “Party School,” you’ll be disappointed with Tufts. Social opportunities are plentiful, and there’s another thread on the social life at Tufts. The balance that Tufts strikes in social life gets discussed there. I invite you to check it out.
