Alfred University vs. Alfred State

Hello, Hagfish!
I’m a senior Material Science Engineering major at Alfred University, and I’m actually a tour guide so if you do decide to make the trip to Alfred you may be given a tour by me! But as far as your question goes…
Alfred U offers a wider variety of engineering disciplines: Mechanical, Glass, Ceramic, Materials and a Green Energy degree. I don’t know what exactly A State offers, but I believe that they have a Civil Engineering program, which we do not, but don’t quote me on that. I’d say if you want to be a technician go see A State, but if you want to be the engineer in charge, come to Alfred U. I think you get a better preparation for a wider range of jobs, but I am a biased source. Also, if you don’t know what sort of engineer you want to be you’ve got more options for a major switch (and it’s pretty easy) and AU is like one of the only colleges that offers Glass and Ceramics.
The schools are across the street from each other, so it is about a 5 minute walk. The town is mostly sandwiched in the middle.
As far as Honors goes: I am not an honors student, but what I believe is the requirement is a certain number of honors credits before graduation and an honors thesis. Again, no flipping idea what the deal is with A State. You could maybe try calling them to get their pitch, but I say come here; we’re totally better!
If you have any other questions, or if I did a super lousy job answering these then just ask and I’ll try to answer again.
