All female LAC faces tough times

Sorry but Liberty is not the environment SB gals are going to seek, with only few exceptions. SB may be small but it’s nowhere near arch-conservative; my take is the northerners there keep a liberal edge going. UVA or W&L. Liberty is no comparison.

Seriously? Liberty is not exactly…well, Seriously? lol

Liberty offers many events that are non-politcal and done very well. Plays, concerts, high level college sports, a year-round skiing facilty open to all, recreation facilites SBC does not have such as indoor ice arena, etc etc. I doubt you really know much about it. And not all LU students are the same. Many were just sent there by their parents. They are very normal and quite friendly. They won’t try to convert you.

The endowment tables are fascinating. What is the reference for those?

The typical source for that information is NACUBO.

<a href=“Page not Found”>Page not Found;

Yes, NACUBO is where I got the endowment info. More specifically, this file:

I would think that the overlap between students considering Sweet Briar and those considering Liberty would be extremely small, at least based on who traditionally attended those schools. They both may have changed, I suppose. I would think the Sweet Briar students would be more likely to look at something like Mary Washington as an alternative.

You missed the point. It was that there are things for SBC girls to do not that far away. Not that they would want to enroll there. They don’t have to go an hour to C’Ville all the time. See this

"I think, because it’s small and somewhat isolated (ie, the closest U is UVA, 50 miles up the road,) it’s come to be a safety- lower average hs gpa, etc. But, it’s still considered a great deal for COA (under 45k for tuition fees, RB?.) Their career services dept is rated high.

How far away is Hamden Sydney?

Hampden Sydney is about the same distance as Charlottesville but the roads are not as good. Hampden Sydney has its own special kind of weirdness.

Mini, as a Yale graduate, an LGBT person, and the parent of an LGBT person, I hardly have any incentive to underestimate such percentages, but I don’t think anyone’s ever taken that “one in three” business seriously, including the people who say it. It’s just a joke, a way of saying “a lot.”

MotB, it’s not so much “want to attend a single-sex college” as found that it was the best option for them. I went from skeptical, to cautious, to fanatical about D’s choice. She had been turned down by Yale ED and after less than a year at Smith said, “Yale could come calling now and I’d tell them, no, thanks.”

MM, St. Johns has its own unique academic vibe tied to its curriculum. A bit like Reed but completely different, if you get what I mean.

For those who are quick to dismiss Sweet Briar due to preconceived notions about the school, check out their Facebook page. They have been listing the future plans of this year’s graduates and many of these young ladies have very impressive plans in place.
