Like every other business, higher education is very much market driven. There is still a respectable demand for womens’ colleges, whereas, many coed schools find themselves beating the bushes for qualified male applicants, even as the phenomenon of the all-male college has virtually disappeared. Quite the interesting turnabout, to be sure, but I fail to understand why Shiraz is concerned that all-womens’ colleges still exist, but laments the dearth of all-males schools.
