All Out of Options - University Expulsion

Hate to beat a guy when he is down, but your story doesn’t make sense. Your school would have definitely reached out to you to tell you that you were on probation. Did the school have your correct address? They usually send that kind of information by mail. It is your responsibility to keep your address current.

You also knew how poorly you were doing, even if you did not do the simple arithmetic to figure it out. Why would any employer requiring a college degree want to hire someone who has shown so little in their college studies?

You do need to leave college and get out in the “real” world. It can be a real motivating experience, if you let it. Maybe then you will ready to take the college experience seriously.

Does the school where you have been taking the make up classes offer a degree program? Have you looked into what would be required to get an associates or bachelors there? You may have enough credits from what you are saying.

And another consideration…you can’t get a degree just for finishing classes. Mostly, there’s going to be a cum GPA requirement. Will finishing those last 3 classes, even if you get As in all of them, bring your GPA up to the standard? The more credits you’ve attempted, the harder it is for a single class to move the GPA very much. You may find, to get that degree, you need to take more than those 3 classes at the institution.

College is not for you. At least not right now. You need to find employment now to start paying off those loans.

Have you considered the military? Maybe you will be more successful with a rigid schedule.

Good luck with this. Even though this feels like the end of the world to you right now it is not. You can turn your life around.

The only people who should join the military are those who are interested in having a career in the military. It’s not a scholarship service, rehabilitation program, or training class for improving time management.

There are many school that will take up to 90 transfer credits-- even if you got them at 15 different schools. And your GPA will start fresh at a new school (or you could attend the school where you did well in the summer).

Take a break if you like, and work. When you want to, and feel you can succeed, take some classes- at community college or other school- do well and prove that you are again college material. Then apply with a better chance for admissions, to a school you want to go to, if you decide on 4 years.

Again, the majority of college students are “non=traditional” and you will be in good company. Look into degree completion options through universities, extensions, continuing ed, adult learner programs, online and distance programs.

Also think about trades, certificate programs, hands-on occupations if they interest you.

Good luck!

I have to agree with the other parents who have given you advice about getting a job to pay off your loans. The simple act that you have had that many family deaths in such a short period of time is very over whelming. Perhaps the medical field is just not the best job fit for you. If you were really seriously into it, it would be your passion and it would come easily. Taking a break and doing some personal insight to what you really like/ want is by far more valuable in the long run. This is your life and you should be very happy and comfortable about your choice. The time spent away from school will help you to get a better perspective on the real world, and even help you to grow up. Good luck to you.
