Hey upcoming Freshmen/ Parent of Freshmen of Fall 2024. Wanted a place that we could talk housing. I know the housing deposit is open to pay on Wednesday although kids dont make housing selections until May.

Wondering how likley any of those will be open by the time my daughters time comes. We didnt know about the date of application determining the housing schedule
Your daughter will have a much better chance if one if her roommates applied early and has an earlier time slot. The suites go quickly. They can pick based on the earlier time for both of them.
I applied 9/7…I was hoping for a suite, but it doesn’t sound likely unless I find someone who applied August 1st
I really can’t make any decision until I know what merit scholarship I am getting.
There will still be plenty of good dorms left. My daughter didn’t like the suites and went to Douthit instead. She didn’t want to have to move her car for games and didn’t want to share one bathroom with three other girls and have to clean it herself! She stayed there for some camps and just didn’t love them.
My daughter didn’t apply until October!! Clemson was her top choice and she was stressed about making the application perfect, which worked out for her admission wise, but maybe not for dorm choices, lol. Thankfully, she is not too concerned and is open to any dorms. We’ll see
Try to encourage them to consider one of the Live Learn communities. Particularly for STEM majors, having your roommates and hall mates in similar majors can help keep them on that path. There are extra supports built into the communities. The engineering one and the vet focused one both have been great for former students.
We keep going back and forth on this because my daugther has been concerned that it would make it where she really only connects with those kids and not kids with other majors.
Also, what if you join an LLC and then realize you want to switch your major. How in the world would you handle that?
I think it’s just for freshman year. My daughter joined CUBS, was in douthit freshman year (nicest dorm I’ve seen, I’ve had 5 kids away at college). She applied at the very last minute, and also knew basically nothing about Clemson (first from our HS to attend, according to naviance 12 students applied in total). She found it very helpful. Most move off campus sophomore year. A LLC costs $1000 extra. She applied to honors freshman year, that is also $1000 ayearextra.
The LLC offers a lot of support for freshman year, but none of it is required. Students are free to do as much or as little as they want. My daughter attended what interested her, but certainly didn’t use it for socialization.
We also didn’t apply until October and my daughter is freaking out there will be nothing left. We haven’t even officially committed yet, because we are still waiting on several RD decisions, but Clemson is pretty high on her list.
My daughter is in a sorority and was also in CUBS. She only participated in the extra CUBS activities that were of interest to her. There are no requirements. The main benefit was getting the preferred housing in Douthit. But there is plenty of time for both of those plus more activities.
If my daughter’s roommate is RISE but my daughter is not, can my daughter stay in Mickel? My daughter will be the one with priority selection since she applied before her roommate.
I believe those in LLC’s choose before others, my daughter applied to Clemson at the very last minute and got to chose housing very early because she was in CUBS, douthit was empty.
