Allergies, asthma and covid19 vaccines

Oh brother. That’s bad news.

@compmom, you just can’t catch a break.

I haven’t shed a tear all year but today I did. Last night hospice called to say my mother was dying but because of the exposure I could not see her. Today she seems fine except for the cognitive effects of Dilaudid, Ativan, Lunesta and Gapapentin all at once. I am getting her off hospice after all this.

She has to stay in her room for 10 days now, even though her positive test is probably from previous infection. I rescheduled my vaccines but we may have herd immunity before I have mine!!

… because of the exposure caused by one of its own employees …

I am really sorry to hear this.

Me and the wife got the vaccine and we both have asthma. There were no allergic reactions or anything to be concerned about, at least with us. It worked exactly the way Moderna said it would.

I don’t think there’s any harm with vaccinating kids, but they’re such a low risk, there’s probably not much point.

Okay, my 5th try, tomorrow 8 am. First shot, Pfizer. Wish me luck!

@jym626 I didn’t cancel due to reluctance. I was sick, and then I had an exposure through my mother’s hospice aide. I couldn’t “just do it” until this week.

The Pfizer vaccine was easier on me than the flu shot. Pleasant surprise since I react so strongly to Miralax. I stayed 40 minutes. The nurse read my allergist’s note, which was thorough, so they were ready to help me but I didn’t need any help.

Hope this helps others!

So glad your vaccine appointment was uneventful!

My DS is fully vaccinated since Friday. She received the Moderna vaccine. Thankful that she only has mild reactions to the second dose with swollen arm, chills, low grade fever and chills. She felt much better 36 hour after the shot. Her friend though had a bad headache on top of the other reactions like her. How is everyone doing?

So I just read all the comments in this thread. It sound like no one here with allergies has had any bad reaction to any of the vaccines – just the normal reaction.

Here is an article about using graded dosing after a hypersensitivity reaction to the first (mRNA) vaccine.

@tx5athome That article gives me hope! I am going to talk to my doc about it! @VeryHappy I did have a serious reaction, although it does look like most people with allergies don’t have much to worry about.

I don’t have any allergies to anything in my life. I got my Moderna last Thursday and didn’t have any bad feelings. However after a week yesterday, my skin around my arm got rash and swollen. I couldn’t lift my arm today. It is weird after a week I am having the reaction.

I continue to have immediate reactions to medications with polyethylene glycol (in mRNA shots) and polysorbate 80 (in J and J as well as flu shots). But the Pfizer shots didn’t give me any reaction, none at all. Minor side effects, yes, but no allergic or hypersensitivity reaction.

Sounds like Covid arm. Seems to be quite common. Hope it improves quickly!
