As far as a “premed” major you can major in almost anything (business, english…) and have the natural science minor- which covers all of the necessary prerequisites for medical school. My observations regarding the neighborhood and USC’s relationships there- we went to the local Mexican “hole in the wall” type restaurant near USC which was filled with a mixture of USC students and neighborhood locals and were really surprised by the reception that we received. So may of the locals were very friendly(more so than at more “upscale” establishments) and REALLy pro-USC. Several people initiated conversations, said “Fight On!” etc. With USC’s outreach and local scholarship programs the locals have more of a sense of ownership, belonging and pride associated with this university than is typical. Obviously bad people exist, but I think that USC does an awesome job in outreach and fostering a great relationship in the surrounding community.
