Am I dead inside? I did not love Dear Evan Hansen

Re: CATS

I didn’t love it, or hate it, but I did love this observation from Norm McDonald on an old SNL. It’s in the first 10 seconds of the clip.

@alwaysamom - I stand corrected.

Went to see The Bands Visit on Broadway yesterday and was so looking forward to it based on reviews and word of mouth. It was so disappointingly OK. The original band leader part was played by Tony Shaloub which would have helped, but still the story was very blah and the music (except for the band itself) was just average. I don’t get all the love for it (and the folks I went with felt the same way). Luckily, we had inexpensive tickets (but decent seats).

Hope to get to Hamilton some time in the next year or so.

@dadx, hilarious.

Hello, Dolly!!! Go see that. It’s great entertainment. Along with Come From Away, by far my most favorite performances this year!

We just returned from a weekend in NYC, where we went to see Come From Away. I thought it might be depressing, but it wasn’t at all. I thoroughly enjoyed the show.

@crknwk2000 - I came back to this thread just to see if you’d seen and enjoyed Come From Away! So glad you did!!!

Great suggestion, @CaMom13 !!! And I needed it the day I saw it. Back in December I had decided to go to a matinee since work should’ve been pretty mellow by Jan 30 (I work at an ad agency and all Super Bowl craziness should’ve been done by then). Well, we make plans and you know how that goes. Work was CRAZY that day, but my co-worker said, it’s 90 minutes, go! So I did. And I got a literal tumbler of champagne, sat next to the nicest retired couple who said they thought I must be in “tech” LOL and then got to see such a great musical. JUST WHAT I NEEDED all around! And to top it off, I learned that I was not dead inside. What a win! Thanks so much :smiley:

@crknwk2000 - if you can believe it, when we went the couple next to us were from Newfoundland! I went in a typical sour city dweller (I am in “tech” lol) and came out a human being who could actually talk to the theatre goer next to her. It didn’t last but it was memorable.

I have linked this thread and sent it to my friends who wrote CFA. :slight_smile: They are always thrilled to hear peoples’ reactions to their show, even after all this time and all the success they have achieved.

We caught CFA in Seattle back in 2015 while it was still a work in progress. We were so charmed by it and predicted it would head to Broadway. We were right. Very life affirming and like a ray of hope out of darkness.

I liked CFA not only because of the story but because it was a new and energetic way to present it. And I liked it because it was a little shorter than most Broadway shows. I usually think most shows have one song too many.

^^^^Plus, there was no intermission in CFA, so that made it shorter timewise.

If you get the chance, go see Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella (dance) The first act was a bit of snooze, but the second and third acts were spectacular

Resurrecting this thread…

Has anybody seen Falsettos? We went this weekend; I LOVED IT!!! It did make me cry at the end :frowning:

I did not like it one bit. In fact, I disliked it intensely. Visions of the true fallout that occurred when some young people committed suicide or had other sudden deaths tan through my mind and si had trouble understanding how this show gained any traction.

Clearly, I’m an outlier

Last year, PBS showed a filmed version of the Broadway revival of Falsettos. I enjoyed it but did not love it. Most of the time I was just marveling at Christian Borle. I have a friend whose favorite show is Falsettos.

I never saw it nor would I have any interest in seeing the show. It sounds dreadful. Suicide is very tough on the survivors.

Like @missypie, I have a few friends who count Falsettos as their favorite show. It’s not a show I love, but that Broadway revival cast was a good one. I have to say, though, that Christian Borle was probably my least favorite castmember, but I’m not a big fan of his anyway. Stephanie, Andrew, Tracie and Brandon were all excellent!

Saw it in SF recently. Was with a group of 8 and none of us particularly liked Falsettos.
