This is a list I’ve compiled of things to bring. I’m going to have to buy some things, and my mom and I are planning on going to go out this week. Do you see anything that’s missing that should be there? We’re planning on getting the everyday supplies (like toothpaste, shampoo, etc) when I’m there.

Some of the things we have around the house. What we need to buy is this–calendar, ethernet cord, sheets, mattress pad, laundry basket, medicines, and a can opener.

Personally, I think having cough drops, cold medicine, and pain meds on hand is a lot more handy than having to get them when you don’t feel well. Everything else, medicine-wise, can probably wait, though, unless you have any prescriptions to get before you leave.

This is what you have left…to take with you to college? Aren’t you leaving anything at home? Or are you aiming to take all you have left and not leave extra stuff home? Aren’t you leaving some clothes at home to wear for when you’re home for breaks and stuff?

My parents are moving once I leave so I need to box up everything that’s not coming with me. So far, it looks like it’s going to be about 2 moving boxes of stuff and a smaller box of books. I must say it feels quite good to get rid of everything I don’t need.

As I said before, I have one box of stuff to leave at home which has HS yearbooks, one or two of my favorite magazines, and a couple other things I’m keeping for sentimental reasons. I plan on just bringing clothes home for breaks. I have traveled a lot in the past, and I can pack a lot into my suitcase.

I was thinking of buying just some pain medicine (like Tylenol or Advil), since I get rather frequent headaches, and maybe cold medicine. Do you think I should wait until I need it to buy it?

Second the opinion to keep simple medicine stuff in your room, like Tylenol, cold medicine, and cough drops is a good thing, since it’s a ***** to have to walk outside your room and get some if you’re running a high fever.

^ Also, what happened to D1 was that just when she needed the cold meds, in the evening, in her dorm across campus, she had $5 left and these things were doubly expensive at the school store. Buy this stuff cheap at home (even check for a sale.) Or, you and Mom make the traditonal move-in day run to WalMart or Target. Like your list.

lookingforward
Is it normally crowded at the stores during move in day? I’ve heard everything can be sold out because of all those people who are thinking to do the move-in day run.

Hmm, I was going to say no-- but things like cute, cheap desk lamps could be raided. And, you definitely need to look for sheets NOW. At nearly every school you need XL and these do run out. IME. (Plus, you just might find something on sale now.) When we do the 1st day run, we get things like a few 12 packs of soda and a case of water bottles- it’s cheaper than buying on campus and kind of a way to interact with roommates and floor mates early on. And we get what we forgot or didn’t think of. We keep it leisurely. My kids are not at Irvine, but DH and I used to live there.
Don’t forget a bathing suit and shorts, if you’re at all into swimming or a day at the beach. Towels. Clock? Have a great time!

why cant you just keep some of that stuff at home? i mean you dont need to take it all to college, but I dunno. I guess if you really dont want that stuff anymore then no your not getting rid of too much
