Am I Wrong?

OP wants the power of self indulgence. We’ve all seen it in our kids. Usually as little ones, often as teens.

As parents, we know it’s sometimes a one shot deal and they quickly process our message to be better individuals, do right rather than self indulge. They make that choice.

But we all know there are kids who insist on failing, first. Somehow, doing what they want matters more. Sometimes, it’s a big hole to fill.

Any of us whose kids took longer to grow into young adults knows this.

But I’m on the ‘no excuses’ side. Immaturity and irresponsibility are hard to watch.

There will always be one or two kids they can find to endorse them. A blindly reckless sort, one or two with matching neediness, or those who can be bought off, to get affection or false loyalty.

A shame when we see it and kids resist.

Life’s more than that. So is self.
And self-worth.
