Amanda Knox freed

The question is now will all of the cases where the prosecution used this CSI team and that were in dispute now be reopened as is customary in the US when, for example, a police officer is shown to have lied on the stand?

One can hope, BC.

And the City of Durham which is on the wrong end of a ~$30 million lawsuit.

I hope that she gets recompensed for the years of her life (which are priceless).

I was very surprised at how moved I was when I heard she was acquitted. I am very happy for her and her family. I hope they make a fortune over it. She would deserve every penny. It has been really embarrassing for me, a first-generation Italian, to observe the circus in Italy that almost took away this innocent girl’s future. To hear these Italians making these assumptions…well, I’m happy my folks immigrated to this country.

I hope Miss Knox can heal, and yes, make a FORTUNE from her story. Any nominations for which actress would be a good choice to play her in the movie?

If there is anything that we can take away from this case, it is that the laws/court systems in other countries can be vastly different than the United States. I think many people visit other countries unaware of laws/courts in a foreign country. One can look at this case as evidence as well as the nightmare of the Natalie Holloway case. No one visits another country intending to get caught up in the legal system, but cases like these should make all of us aware of differences when visiting foreign countries.

How about when she was told that she HIV+ and was asked to provide names of the men she slept with? That list was then published in the local papers. Talk about defamation of character!

This is the sort of thing that disturbs me. And it doesn’t just happen in Italy. While it’s less likely to happen to a white coed here in America the hundreds of (mostly) men released from death row due to the work of the Innocence Project are proof of that fact.

This happened to Amanda Knox? Never heard about this one.

Isn’t this slander?

We have a local town news website and it puts out stories in article form. There is always a notation that states that an arrest does not necessarily mean that the suspect is guilty.

what a ridiculous thing to say! She will be profiting from HER OWN ORDEAL! If she was innocent (I think she was), she spent four years of her prime youth as a sacrificial lamb to an unscrupulous prosecutor’s obsession and craziness. Her family life savings were depleted. Why should she NOT get some kind of compensation? Since the Italian court will not reimburse her for her trauma and loss, what of it if she get some compensation by PERFECTLY and MORALLY acceptance means of books, movies, and what not?

She may have done some stupid things, like a lot of young people, but if she did NOT murder that girl, nothing she did make her deserve what was done to her, and she has every right to get some compensation for the life ruined and family resources drained.

FWIW, there already was a (fairly crappy) Lifetime (I think) movie made about the Amanda Knox case. It started that young girl from “Heroes”, Hayden P.

I’m not sure if there would be another TV movie in the works.

I’m 100% sure this would make for the single greatest episode of “Locked Up Abroad”. Of course, I don’t think they pay much for interviews/rights.

She’ll get a book deal and deals from interviews. The book deal will probably get her the most money, if she gets residuals.

I’m in Seattle, where she’s from. The family is basically broke now, spending all of their savings on the trial and living in Italy for 4 years. Even her grandma is pennyless now. I’m guessing Amanda will do whatever it takes to recoup the funds to pay back all of her family that contributed to her defense.

In cases like this there is never a completely “happy ending”. I hope that the Knox family can move forward and that Amanda Knox can recapture her young life.

The victim’s family will always feel a loss. What I don’t understand…there IS a person serving prison time for having committed this murder. Was the family of the victim hoping for three murderers to be serving time? I realize they want all who participated in this horrible crime to be punished. But one person is in jail.

I think this family needs and deserves the time to be together as a family. If the future happens to hold a book, as noted upstream…no one will be forced to buy it.

BCEagle - re:HIV. It was on 20/20 the other night.

Thanks; I don’t watch television so I would have missed it. Sounds like the police / prosecution are liars too.

Apparently the victim’s family feels Knox played some role in the murder. I would really like to know what that view is based on. Have they been convinced by the prosecutor’s fantasy that Knox was a sex crazed she devil that forced her roommate into a deadly sex game, or do they know something we don’t know? I would just like to know why they think Knox and her ex-boyfriend are guilty.

Wasn’t it a police officer who pretended to be a doctor who told her she had HIV and then told her to provide a list of sex partners? If so, can you imagine the outrage if an American police officer did that?

I’m where Thumper is. I’m happy for the Knox family but I can’t help but feel for the Kercher family as they probably feel like they now have no idea about what happened to their own lovely daughter. No one has “won” in this 4 year saga.

Interesting article her about what she wrote in her prison diary and how the press spun it into the virtual opposite of what she actually said: [Amanda Knox’s prison diary: What did she really say? | Let’s Talk About True Crime - seattlepi.com](http://blog.seattlepi.com/dempsey/2008/07/11/amanda-knoxs-prison-diary-what-did-she-really-say/)

And an interesting pre-trial review of the “evidence.” [Amanda Knox: What if she’s innocent? | Let’s Talk About True Crime - seattlepi.com](http://blog.seattlepi.com/dempsey/2008/01/29/amanda-knox-what-if-shes-innocent/)

Actually, the odd thing is that they do know what happened to their daughter: she was murdered by Rudy Guede. His DNA was found all over the murder scene and he confessed. The prosecution of Knox and her boyfriend appears to have been the result of an overzealous (and possibly deranged) prosecutor determined to find a conspiracy (and perhaps to justify his mistreatment of innocent witnesses.) Shades of Mike Nifong.

Looking forward to getting home and catching up on the news…

She was not totally innocent; she was guilty of slander and served her time accordingly. She only served one extra year that she shouldn’t have, hard but not life ruining. If indeed her family did bankrupt themselves (which I doubt) then recouping their costs is understandable, but making millions of this (as I’m sure Knox will) is not.

Of course they do, Knox was found guilty of killing their daughter for goodness sake. You can’t just flick a switch and forget four years of believing someone killed your child just like that. There was a lot of evidence that pointed to Amanda Knox, the prosecution didn’t just decide to pick on the young American girl you know.

The interview the Kertcher family gave earlier today has been twisted out of all context, they were very dignified and said quite plainly that they trust the Italian courts, whatever verdict they come back with.

You don’t see the perverse nature of the criminal justice system here?

If the police did their job properly, she wouldn’t have slandered them.

In the Duke Lacrosse case, there were a number of online groups that did a lot of investigative work into Mike Nifong, Dick Brodhead, Larry Moneta, Tara Levicy and other bad actors. This work helped to prevent a travesty.

I hope she makes tens of millions to recoup her costs and her time - that never really happens. What I’d like to see is prosecution of the prosecutors and the police.

All the more damning evidence that the police and prosecutor should be prosecuted.

You mean the phony and corrupted evidence?

Sorry but I take any legal system with a huge boulder of salt.
