America's pastime: Hope springs eternal . . . (aka the baseball thread)

I will keep an eye out for his brows

Wait - your backup team for the Red Sox is the Reds? Is that wise? I thought I was smart picking a back up team that actually wins (Giants)

Getting closer to opening day! Wonder how many more pitchers will go down between now and then?

We had a shortstop competition going and the guy I like broke his wrist last week - out 4 to 6 weeks. :frowning:

The other guy hits but is a crazy thrower and kind of an error machine when under pressure which you don’t want in a shortstop.

Garland, you’re a Mets fan?
Say it ain’t so!!

The Yankees can all crash at our house, as long as they bring Jeter along.

I’m a Mets fan, too, but I don’t hate the Yankees. Love Jeter. I cried every time I saw the “My Way” commercial last year.

The Yankees will be interesting this year with A-Rod and no Jeter. Does anyone NOT like Jeter?

Beginning my 50th year of following the Yankees. I remember the first game I went to quite well – Mickey Mantle hit a home run.

Yep, musicmoms. Big time Mets fan. So tired of putting up with being surrounded by Yankee fans in real life. Sorry, MM, but rooting for the Yankees feels like rooting for Wall Street. That said, I have nothing against Jeter. I won’t miss the Jeter “mystique” though.

I’m so looking forward to Opening Day! Even with the latest pitching injuries, we are so stuffed with good pitching tht should be fine. It’s hitting that’s a bit thin around here.

I would say that I hate the Yankees (sports-hate) but I still like Jeter.

^Yeah, agreed.

I grew up “hating” Reggie Jackson :stuck_out_tongue:

Another Mets fan here. So glad to have Matt Harvey back and glad we didn’t get rid of Dillon Gee considering our pitchers’ injuries. I hope bringing in the fence at Citi helps us more than the opposition.

What’s with all these Tommy John surgeries, not just on the Mets?

DH is a diehard Yankees fan, so even though we both hate each other’s team, we can appreciate the good players. What’s even worse is that S1 is a Red Sox fan. There’s no appreciation at all between DH and S1.

The Mets are certainly not known for scoring runs. Makes it hard on the pitcher. Moving the fence in may not be a good thing.

Shellfell–I would hate to be in a “mixed” baseball family. We’re all Mets fans here, so we get to suffer together. lol.

Garland - Fortunately, S1 was either in college or grad school when the Red Sox won, so he and DH didn’t have to face each other. The 2003 ALCS was brutal, but DH was kind to S1.

When it comes to other sports, we’re not a mixed family, so we just have to get through baseball season.

Given that I have nothing to look forward to during the upcoming NFL season (49er Fan, We suck again!), all my hopes lie with my beloved Boys in Blue. Yes, I am that rare specimen that is a Dodger and 49er fan. Grew up in the middle of the state, so I got to pick.

So far the Dodgers are looking good. I have high hopes this year, but it will be interesting to see how they replace Hanley Ramirez and healthy Matt Kemp. I also hope the pitching acquisitions can remain healthy. But at least when all else fails, Clayton Kershaw is still there. Watching him pitch is incredible. He’s a once in a generation talent, and I’m glad I’ve been able to see him pitch in person a few times.

Happy opening day everyone! It’s already starting out well - my team is hitting!

@trojanchick99‌ Picking up Kendrick and Rollins to replace Ramirez/Gordon was a fantastic decision in my opinion, as their defense will more than make up for any lack in offense (which I don’t think will be a problem either). I grew up in the middle of CA as well, but I will never be a Niner’s fan!!!
