Amount of Credits Necessary for a Physical Therapist?

I was considering studying Physical Therapy or Pyschiatry at Pitt Main Campus. I was wondering if someone could provide me an outline of how many credits that I would need in each subject area. I’m taking some AP and CHS classes in high school and I’m wondering which ones will carry over and contribute to the credits required by my major.

Obviously, I will be in the School of Arts and Sciences.

Basically, I’m wondering how many English, math, science, social studies, language, and elective credits I will need to complete for my major.

I am taking CHS Statistics and CHS Visual Basic in my senior year of high school. Will credits for these 2 CHS classes carry over?

Also, I completed 3 years of Spanish in high school (with an A average) and from what I have heard this means that I will be exempt from taking a language at Pitt. Is this true?

Thanks to all responses that are given.

Neither one of these are undergraduate majors at Pitt. PT is a graduate program. Psychiatry involves a premed program (with any major) and going to med school. Here is a list of majors in A&S - you can click on them and study the websites to get the answers you ask for those majors:

I was referring to what undergraduate credits I would need in preparation to complete the graduate major of Physical Therapy or Psychiatry.

Here’s your answer for Doctor of Physical Therapy program:

and for med school (of which Psychiatry is a specialty) you have to be top notch:
http://www.medadmissions.pitt.edu/admissions-requirements/requirements.php

There are specific classes to have taken, but total number of credits would follow what you need for your chosen major, school and undergraduate degree.

Would Visual Basic carry over as one of my electives for the basic requirements for the School of Arts and Sciences?

It would have to count for one of the computer science courses many of which count for Quantitative and Formal Reasoning Courses for A&S - you’ll have to look at the course descriptions. Best thing is to ask you questions to your advisor after you get to Pitt or whichever institution you choose. There is lots of info available on the Pitt website. http://www.asundergrad.pitt.edu/

During today’s PittStart session, it was pointed out that some graduate programs require students to take certain core classes (Bio or Chem for example) as an undergrad. Keep that in mind when taking AP exams and consult with your freshman advisor.

@Fauster‌
Would you advise that I don’t take the AP Biology test? I’ve heard Pitt saying that too and I’m not sure if it’s worth taking since they won’t grant credit for it.

I can’t advise you since I don’t know all of the information. And I’m not a college advisor. :)

If your academic goal is to add a minor or two or possibly a double major, bringing in AP credits may be a necessity. But if your plan is to finish an undergrad degree and apply to grad schools, a high GPA may be more important. Your best bet is to review your plans and goals with an advisor from your intended major.
