An Early-Decision Student Backed Out of Tulane. Tulane Punished the High School

I remember an earlier Tulane thread where a parent made this post (below):

They were clearly going into the Early Decision process planning to renege if they did not get Merit Aid, which the ED process does NOT entitle them to expect. You can back out for reasons of financial needs, but not for financial wants, and desired Merit Aid is the latter. They were point blank declaring that they were planning to cheat, and thwart the spirit of ED. Okay, people might have different opinions about this, but I’m just providing an real instance of how some families actually do (ab)use ED.

Tulane University Early Decision / Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Ok Tulane has put us in this situation. It is DD first choice but she was deferred EA and so we have moved to ED2 because it is impossible to get in RA. That being said we are going to require 25-30K in aid and if we don’t get it, we’re not going. It is clear on the ED2 form that it is not binding if TU doesn’t give you appropriate aid. So we will roll the dice and know that we may be one of those that don’t accept the ED2 admission if the aid isn’t there. Before you cast dispersions, know that the ridiculously low RA numbers force you into this. Tulane is one of the worst violators of this in the entire country and there are plenty of articles written about their somewhat shady admissions tactics. If DD wasn’t so enthralled with the school, we wouldn’t be doing it.
