An Unbelievable Rape Story

@rumrunner Repeat after me…Rape is not about sex. Rape is not about sex. Rape is not about sex. (Continue until you believe it.)

Rape is about power. It’s about violence. It’s about hurting another person. It’s about demeaning women (or more rarely men, especially gay men.) When it occurs at a party, it’s about male “bonding” and status within a group of men, which may be a frat or a sports team or, especially during war, a military unit. It’s NOT about sex.

I once got my younger daughter to “confess” to doing something naughty that it turned out her sister had done. The girls were 5 and 7 at the time. I wasn’t mad, didn’t yell or punish her, told her I just didn’t want her to lie and to tell me the truth. I was just convinced that D2 had done it- don’t even remember what it was all these years later- and after a few minutes she confessed in guilty tears and told me how sorry she was.
Then D1 came over and tole me she was the real culprit.

We all laugh now but after 13 years I STILL feel still really awful about it…

What a chilling story. I’m so glad the women cops teamed up together and caught the guy. I’m so happy Marie has gone on to have a good life and a good job. I’m so sad that she wasn’t believed, but I’m even sadder that she was cowed so easily and backed down so easily. She seemed to the people she was close to that she was OK, but no one who’s really OK would have let the police force her like that. I hope she got good therapy and is now able to stand up for herself.

OP, thanks for posting this.

“Cops were only too willing to think a kid like that would make something up to get attention.”

Her foster moms were, too.

Young people being interrogated by police falsely confess to all kinds of stuff, all the time. Sadly, the stories rarely end like this (with definitive proof of innocence and compensation for the wrongly charged).

I know this is the politically correct stance to have, but in college I would contend that often times it is about sex.

  • The guy is drunk, wants to have sex and doesn't realize the girl is too drunk.
  • The guy is drunk, wants to have sex and doesn't realize the girl doesn't want to go any farther.
  • The girl is just straight up too drunk to consent etc.

I would contend that these types of rapes that ARE about sex happen far more often than gang rapes and using violence to rape a girl.
