Animals and furniture

Ditto. I was able to keep our cat off the table and kitchen counters. But otherwise, I didn’t mind if she was on the sofa or bed or my lap.

We just ordered a new couch and 2 chairs, and covers to put on each while we’re at work. Our Lab lounges on the couch like Cleopatra.

Seems like lots of us on CC have Aussies

Well, they are the best.

Border Collies rule! Oh wait, my big guy is half Aussie. I think it’s his other 50% (Great Pyrenees/coonhound) that cause his problematic behaviors. Dude likes to bark and has no remorse whatsoever! He’s definitely a sweetheart though and wouldn’t hurt a fly.

My dog (85 lb black lab) is allowed on the bed but not the furniture. My daughter’s dog (also a lab but only 50 lb) is not allowed on the bed but she sleeps in ours when we dog sit. When they dog sit our dog he will try and sneak in the bed during the night which usually gets him kicked out of the bedroom.

When a friends’ lab was younger they didn’t allow her onto the couch. It was funny to watch the dog, she’d slowly put one paw up and slide it onto the couch, then the other, then inch herself onto the couch. I guess in her mind nobody would notice a 50lb dog on the couch if she only did it slowly enough :grinning:

Our first dog, a 75lb mutt, used to get on the couch when we were not home. We caught him once when we came in a different door and he didn’t hear us. For years he slept on our bed when dh was traveling, which was all the time when our kids were young.

Our second dog, a 100lb black lab, has never really tried to get on the couch. We used to let him sleep in our room but he sheds like crazy do when we got new carpet upstairs a few years ago, we no longer let him upstairs. We have wood floors downstairs and it’s easier to keep clean.

We had a second smaller dog, about 40lbs, who loved to jump up on the couch. She had a lot of anxiety/issues so we eventually just bought a little washable bed that we put on the end of the couch for her to snuggle up on.

Once she was gone, we adopted another dog/mutt about the same size. She must not have been allowed on couch in previous life b/c no amount of coaxing will get her to come up on the couch which is fine by us! However, she has no problem jumping up on our bed. It’s funny b/c she jumps up on it when we go to bed, flips on her back for lots of belly rubs, but then immediately jumps off and sleeps on her bed on the floor. Dh gets up an hour or two before I do every morning, and as soon as he gets up, she hops up to his side and stays there until I get up. But, oddly, when he travels, she does not sleep on the bed with me, but come morning, she will jump up around 5am, same time dh would normally have gotten out of bed!

I dont mind as much dogs on the bed b/c it’s easy enough to wash the bedding but I don’t want our furniture smelling like dogs or getting fur all over it.

Thanks for the rec! Our new couch arrived today, and the colors work well together. I will need to order another one as I messed up on the sizing.

The dog is still investigating the new item, though.

Exactly what mine looked like until last week when I bought those stretchy individual seat and back covers so it looks like individual cushions. I did still cover the arms and the back with blankets because I have cats that like to scratch, but those were easy to make look neater. https://soothinghome.com/products/sofahero-covers?variant=44036761354462&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gc_id=21006054926&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAuYuvBhApEiwAzq_YiW-nREfnx_W3qVWp26QP1FC_EvVv3LTwLv8Ws0UAa7sd-G3yVO2mwBoCuHcQAvD_BwE

We try to get her to stay on her dog bed, but she goes to the chair first!

My dogs are farm dogs, so they have been known to roll in dead things and horse poop, plus the risk of Lyme disease, and mud means No Dogs On Beds Ever. One doesn’t want to get up on furniture, and the other dog only curls up on one particular chair. Now cats – they go everywhere and usually sleep on our bed overnight.

Technically she isn’t on the bed. She is on top of me in the bed. Personal space isn’t her strong suit.

These are the best!!!

Thought of this thread, DD stayed over last night; she came into the office this afternoon to let me know she was heading back to her apartment. This is what I walked into in the family room. Now I know how the dog got even more spoiled with the furniture
