Ann Curry out as Today Show host

True that.

Well it looks like firing Ann Curry was a “new coke” type of mistake.

I’m now firmly in the CBS camp with Charlie Rose and Norah O’Donnell. Unlike the story says, I don’t need more family; I want news in the morning.

I started straying from NBC when it became like Entertainment Tonight. Kardashians, Housewives, etc. Not what I want from 7 - 9 a.m. And, Jenna Bush seemed utterly unqualifed as well. I really like George S and Robin Roberts. I like Charlie Rose too. Plenty of other choices away from NBC.

mom, I think ABC is as bad, pimping all its shows – Modern Family, Dancing With the Stars, etc. I find Gayle awkward on CBS, but I’d rather put up with that than the incessant hyping. :)

I have always been a Today show girl. But, even I am getting tired of it and may soon reach for the remote to try the other morning shows. Between 7 and 9 am , I want real news and the flippant magazine type segments are annoying me. The "whats on your ipod playlist " was a bust, as have been the other similar segments. I feel the production team have really lost their focus. Time to get back to basics and air what they have been good at for a number of years.

I’ve also always been a Today Show viewer but although I did not Ann Curry a great anchor and was treated poorly by NBC, what irks me more is the descent into mediocrity on Today… so much fluff… so I find myself more and more watching CBS in the morning. I feel sometimes on Today it’s practically a chore for them to get through the news headlines and onto their pre-arranged features.

I cut the cord with morning TV news shows 11 years ago. After 9/11 in an age of 24hour cable news available I found myself unable to move away. I had to go cold turkey for my sanity. In my area local news is national news so there’s very little escape. I started reading news online in the morning and shut it down for the rest of the day. Now we will watch cable news at night frankly because the kids like to watch and are interested. From what I hear of morning news I’m not missing much.

We don’t have cable so I really need my news in the morning.

The problems started when Curry was slotted in a role she could not handle well. It is not like people miss her, but that the show is suffering from too little Matt and too much Roker the clown plus the two lightweights they promoted. Guthrie is insipid and Morales is like her shorter twin.

The show needs two strong anchors and cut all the buffoonery back. Now, it just look a complete circus.

I haven’t watched the program in a long time, but I tried the other morning when I ran 5 miles on the treadmill. I think the show was more painful than the jogging (and that’s saying a lot, coming from me). I’ll go back to cable news, I guess.

Love Ann Curry!

There’s a big difference between Katie Couric and Diane Sawyer in terms of gravitas. Many people didn’t think Couric’s chipper morning show demeanor would work as an anchor. On the other hand, Sawyer has had an anchor-like delivery for as long as I can remember. I don’t know why you say Sawyer is just hanging in there.
