We started a tradition when our daughter was little to go to a local first night and then out to dinner with the other families. (they did a kids new years eve fireworks at 6 pm and we ate right after that). First night ended many years ago and the dinner tradition continued for many years. It was always an early dinner with these other families (who had kids my daughter’s age) and then each family went home. Once my daughter stopped being home for the holiday (she gets to enjoy all the fun at Boston’s first night), we switched to dinner out with a few of the couples that were part of the original families. This has morphed into dinner out with another couple only (the others seem to be busy with kids who are around for new years.) So, tonight we will have a nice dinner with the other couple at 7:30 and then come home and just watch the ball drop my husband and I.
We typically do nothing on New Year’s Day. The last few years I have started the new year with my 9:30 am yoga class. - will be doing that in the morning again.
We are doing the same thing tonight that we have done for the last few years - dinner out with another couple who are very close friends of ours, then back to their house to play some euchre. Will have toast at midnight and then pretty much that’s it.
Traditionally I watch the Rose Parade and take down my Christmas stuff on NYD, Also a friend and her son host a party I attend. I’ll still do the party tomorrow, but am running a 5K with some of my running buddies , then watching football with H, so no parade.
We are doing nothing, which is fine with us. I’ll meet up with my running group in the morning for a “Resolution Run”. We have some beef stew that a friend made and dropped off which we’ll eat for dinner. Just hanging with the dogs and cats!
No plans for us. S is at a friend’s house, so D, H, and I are making a from scratch dinner. D made homemade pappardelle, I made a ragu, and H made bread. We will likely play some games and/or watch a movie, share a champagne toast at midnight, and that’ll be it.
I am at a beautiful B and B in the Texas Hill Country with my mother and sister. My niece and daughter stayed here last night but headed back to Austin just now to attend a party with friends. Mom, Sis, and I will enjoy a festive dinner at the hotel. Then we’ll watch football and ring in the New Year. We’re all night owls.
Tonight we are having our best friends over for a late dinner that we will cook together, and they will sleep over. Tomorrow, we host our annual chili, football, and friends New Year’s Day open house. I never know if there will be 10 people or 40 but there’s always enough food! I literally serve two kinds of chili with fixings, salad, mac and cheese (a leftover tradition from when all the kids were young and wouldn’t eat the chili - there’s never any left over, even now!), and cornbread. I also make a cookie and brownie dessert bar and we’ll root for the Wisconsin Badgers in the Rose Bowl! Happy New Year everyone!
It’s only 8 pm but I’m already in bed. I’ve been hit hard with a bad cold. I’m hoping to feel well enough to go a taco party tomorrow afternoon.
So many of the meals sound delicious. I’m also jealous of those who get to spend the day or evening with their kids.
Just returning from a wonderful week with DS and his family. Never turned the TV once in a week. Quite refreshing. Will get home just in time to celebrTe the new year.
Almost next year and we’ve spent most of the evening reassuring the dogs. Intermittent fireworks from around 8:30 PM until about a half hour ago. Ours and dogs next door both sounding the alarm and stressing to some degree. We tried to explain – no luck there – and just cue relaxed behavior. Wishing a calm and happy 2020 to all!
Just had some Mumms with our NY friends! Three more hours to our own NY. Checked my emails. Made some last minute gifts to my alma mater’s business plan competition.
Happy New Year, Seattle!! As Billy said, “Duh!” Hope the fireworks glitch is the biggest glitch of the new year. Pink bubbly is being consumed here anyway!
