Another Florida thread: beach spring break for college kids who are NOT into partying

It probably would be cheaper, but very inconvenient for a quick turn around trip. She would have little control over her departure and arrival time, I’m sure there’s no direct bus, so it would be a long ride. The drive can be made in five hours. Seriously, the car rental is not bad at all, or maybe I just had low expectations when I got a quote.

Bunsen, I have spent quite a few spring breaks down in Florida. One year we stayed in Flagler - which was between St Augustine and Daytona… but you’d need a car to get between them. St Augustine is very very cute and quaint. Daytona was very populated when I was there because it was bike week. They can rent a car at 21. I’d suggest Miami. If I remember right, Miami had free public transportation… You could hop on a bus and just go. South beach is very nice but pretty populated at spring break time however there are plenty of things to do and it’s not necessarily a drinking only place.

Teri, if she wanted a bus, your daughter could take a mega bus from boston to philly for a couple of dollars and then a bieber bus from philly to allentown for pretty cheap. Might be something to look into. I’m not sure what hours mega bus does but i know bieber has them all day. Probably much more convenient to drive tho. :)

I third the possibility of St. Augustine. Nice downtown, easy city to walk, interesting, historic things to see, and of course, the lighthouse.

Not quite the same, but have they considered looking for an affordable cruise? D did this with her 3 best friends when they were HS seniors and they had a great time.

Wow, so many helpful suggestions! Many, many thanks to all! I knew CC would come to the rescue!

We live in South Florida and I love the West coast of Florida (Naples, Ft. Myers, Sanibel and Marco Island) but I think any of those places would be tough to do much without a car. My friends who live in Orlando, go to the beach at Cape Canaveral. I think without a car, my kids would be happiest on Miami Beach (South Beach) where they can sit on the lovely beach all day and walk to the shops and cafes on Lincoln Road at night. South Beach is VERY expensive though. Marco Island is a nice, not too expensive place to visit. There is a huge Marriott there that has a lot going on onsite.

Hi Seiclan! :)

OP: What part of the country do these teens go to college? That may make a difference on where to recommend!

I agree with the short cruise idea. If they are on the west coast, there are cruises out of San Diego to Catalina Island and Mexico (I believe Royal Caribbean, not sure though).

Cruises from Florida to the Bahamas for 4-5 days…

Key West is another choice where you don’t need a car at all…I love any of the keys…
Islamorada has been mentioned…Key Largo…not sure if planes go directly to the keys…it’s a 3 1/2 hour drive from Miami, so hopefully there are flights to go straight there…

What about Las Vegas? They probably have to be 21 at most places? No beach there, nevermind…also they could go to parts of California…I bet San Diego would be a blast!
Good luck, let us know where they choose! :)
