Another mass shooting. This time, California

Who writes like this? Talk about passive voice…sounds like his massacre is his wife’s fault.

It sounds like someone else shot his wife, and he went off the hinges… really?!

CBS is reporting that the shooter was barred from having guns. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/shooter-in-deadly-california-rampage-wasnt-allowed-to-have-guns/

The neighbors complained to the sheriff about the amount of shooting he was doing but law enforcement did nothing. I would like to know if that information was missing from a database or if it was never checked.

Obviously, Neal disobeyed the judge’s orders.

Do people still think it is hard to obtain guns in this country - legally or otherwise? It’s just not.

Murderers don’t care about judge’s orders or gun laws. This should not come as a shock.

I think if guns were registered the law enforcement officers could have taken them until he was allowed to have them again if ever. If never, they could be sold for him.

I heard on the radio that he had somehow made the guns himself and that they were not registered.

Be that as it may, if the neighbors were reporting barrages of gunfire, clearly he had guns. And the cops did nothing why?

One article said something along the lines that the sheriff got complaints and referred them back to the HOA. Sounds like a typical small, very rural town USA.

The HOA? Seriously?

I saw a story about this on the national news, and a local law enforcement officer said that for the man to be arrested for firing the weapons in his yard, he had to be directly observed doing so. I don’t know if that holds up legally but it sure doesn’t satisfy me emotionally.

Hearing is a form of observation.

In this article, the statement is made that the shooter was “not law enforcement friendly” when officers went to his home to attempt to chat with him. I wonder if the officers were concerned that he would respond with violence if they forced the issue, so to speak. I don’t know what the right call is in situations like this. Based on yesterday’s events, it does seem as though the shooter might have been willing to shoot people, even (or especially) police officers, attempting to enter his home.

Too bad they hadn’t figured that out when they set bail.

This is horrific! Thankfully the school staff acted quickly.

All the schools in my area are locked - you have to go in one door and get buzzed in. Some of them even have you swipe your license.

I’ll say it again- domestic violence abusers will often plead down to a misdemeanor and get to keep their guns. Even those who are required to give them up, cops don’t care. I never knew of any real attempt to take an abuser’s guns away when I was working in IPV.
