<p>At my school the boys start asking once tickets go on sale. People know who is going to ask who before that, but hardly anyone actually asks until the school starts advertising the date of prom, etc.</p>
<p>I had an ex-boyfriend asked me plenty far in advance… via text. In my opinion, it doesn’t require a spectacle, but it is nice to be asked in person or in a well-thought out way, and enough in advance that the girl doesn’t question whether she was a second or third choice.</p>
