Another washer/dryer thread

We’re thinking of buying a new washer and dryer at Best Buy. Has anyone had service problems with them because they don’t have their own repair people?

I have one of the early Maytag front loaders and I did have a big problem with odors. Research told me it can be a problem with front loaders, although I think the newer models are better now. I found a product that really eliminated the odor problem at Smellywasher.com. I also leave the door open and it is critical that you use the HE detergent. Good luck!

I was wondering how Best Buy is on service–that kind of problem. Like does it take a long time to get someone out for a service call, etc.

Another Miele fan here! Mine is only a year old, but it was worth every one of the 180000 pennies my H paid for it!

Very gentle on the clothes, very easy to use and can be opened mid-cycle. Our laundry room is right behind the living room, but we have no problem with the washer running even when we watch TV - the Miele is sooo quiet! I have no problems with mold either, but I do leave the door open (I used to leave the lid open on my old top-loader, too). I do not wash any “handwash” by hand anymore - the handwash cycle does the job superbly. And did I mention that I washed our king-size comforter in it with no problem?

Now, I’m thinking of killing my dryer so I can get this:

I’ve had a Whirlpool Duet front load washer since 1997 and it’s great! I never leave the door open, am allergic to mold/mildew, live in a hot/humid climate (Caribbean), and have never had any odors. I have also never (knock-on-wood) needed any repairs.

bethievt: Best Buy has lousy service: [Consumer complaints about Best Buy](Best Buy Store Reviews: What To Know | ConsumerAffairs®) You’ll save money and aggravation in the long run if you use a local appliance dealer/repair person to work on your machine, even if you buy the machine at Best Buy.

I bought a Kenmore front-loader about 5 years ago and I love it. I wouldn’t recommend buying ANYTHING from Sears right now, their customer service and repairs have gone completely in the tank, but I think Whirlpool and Kenmore are actually the same company.

Front loaders do leave the clothes really dry, which reduces dryer time. Also much less wear and tear on the clothes with no agitator. And there’s the less water usage thing. I don’t have any trouble getting HE detergent, Whisk works fine. My washer holds more than you would think from looking at it. I wouldn’t go back to a top-loader.

I’ve never had an odor problem, no “leftover” water in the drum that I know of.

I second not going to Sears. When our Kenmore washer died, I spent close to an hour on the phone only to learn that they would not send anyone to our house in the next couple of weeks

Salespeople at our local Best Buy were so unhelpful, we ran to the closest independent appliance store and were very happy with their advice.
