Hi
i got an email from graduate director of mechanical engineering . it contains :
“Hello Amin. Yes, you seem very qualified. I strongly encourage you to apply to our program. If accepted to our program, you will be entering a rigorous and demanding program that will both challenge you and excite you in the field Mechanical Engineering at the graduate level. It is our hope and belief that our program will provide you an opportunity to excel in your upcoming professional career and/or promote your current career path. In addition, we offer significant merit tuition scholarship opportunities for well qualified students like yourself. Also, you may be eligible to receive a full tuition scholarship for one academic term (summer term) by meeting certain academic requirements during your studies here at RIT. The requirements to be met are maintaining a cumulative grade point average of above 3.0/4.0 and on track to complete your degree in one calendar year during the summer term. Also, you are eligible for additional financial assistance through teaching assistantships as well as graduate research assistantship opportunities. These types of assistantships are in addition to your tuition merit scholarship.”
is this mean i got full fund or how does the scholarship cost?
is cover all cost of living there?
I have to say this is pretty amazing that the original post was from 2006. Much of your original points still hold 100% true today. A few thing have changed the the accepted rate I believe is now under 50%, and we have switched over to the semester system but everything else is spot on. There is still nothing to do on campus and a car is needed to do most anything in Rochester. Rochester has very little to do in general compared to Boston or other major cities. Heck if you drive south 10 mins from rit on the back roads its just miles of endless farm country… Also many professors and students wish that we didn’t switch to the semester system and actually preferred the quarter system. As for the college town I still have no idea what that is supposed to be. If what is now know as global village is the “college town” than idea failed drastically. There is literally just a haircut place, a cafeteria, and a Mexican restaurant and nothing to do there. The UR college town is way better. Housing is still a big issues as nothing new is planned and we still use the lottery game to get housing. Plus RIT housing is like 300%+ the local housing price in neighboring apartments. Figure each person at UC pays $1000 a month or about $8,000 a year and 4 people live in the apartment so the total fee for a 4 bedroom apartment is $32k for 8 months and this is $4,000 a month. You can easily rent a local apartment with 2 bedrooms for under $900 a month and a 3 bedroom for $1,100 a month. The male to female ratio is still extremely dismal with not many girls in the college of engineering or computer science STEM majors. RIT is considered a dry campus and this is a big turn off to a lot of people. Many people stay in their rooms the whole year and don’t do much. Most people I talk do don’t really like these things, but we stay for the fact RIT is still well known for its good education.
RIT likes to pretend we are very diverse but this simply is not true. The white male percentage is mainly dominate (60%+) and most claims of diversity come from the fact we have the NTID.
