I think MOST, obviously not all, people generally follow the general outlines of the divisions as outlined by the census bureau: Northeast: Div 1: New England: CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT, Div2: Middle Atlantic: NJ, NY, PA. The Mason Dixon line is pretty historically relevant.
