kluge, I completely agree about the plaza, Mirador, Albacin. Something very romantic about the city.

About foreign exchange; One should compare the rates/fees. We used the ATM. No problem finding it. With ATM the excahnge rate was as published but they had fees. When we got it from the bank here in previous trips, there were no fees but the rate was quite unfavorable.

momlove, we usually get some money in the local currency before traveling – $100 or so. Just to have cash on hand to pay for transportation, food at the airport, tips, stuff like that. We always use ATMs for cash once there.

While the added cost or ordering $100 or 100 in the US will be negligible, it might be superfluous as ATMs will be available at the first destination airport. If all fails, the Caixa manned exchange booths will not cost more than the US delivery.

All in all, the arrangements for the arrival day pale in comparison to what is needed to make for a pleasant extended stay. In addition to the cash part, it is best to anticipate the need for access to wifi or cellular services.
