Budget is about $30k for COA, which would allow all of the CSU (California). UCs are a bit more (about $36k), which we would try to afford, but D’s chances of getting in are really slim to none, so we’re not seriously considering these.
So, yeah, this college tour thing is it about just seeing what we could get that matches a CSU cost. There’s only 4 of 23 CSU’s with Animal Science (CP SLO, CP Pomona, Chico, and Fresno), and she’s only seriously considering CP Pomona and Fresno, which is only 2 schools, and it is possible she’ll get into neither. Thus, the WUE schools are sortof a backup plan, but also to see what she could get versus a CSU.
