@thumper1 My implant is 10-15 years old. Not new. No idea if I get it free or not. Am I guessing it right replacing an implant is not as bad as replacing a real tooth? I am naively thinking all you do is unscrew it out?
I like Prevident 5000 best. Itās for ages 6 and over. I also like Closys products and Mi Paste Plus. Use these before bed and DONāT rinse. During the day use Sensodyne products without SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) like Pronamel.
Check your diets. Keep a food diary for a week, especially liquids. Milk at meals, black coffee, tea. Water during the day. No soda (even diet, the carbonation is an acid), no drinks in cans, alcohol with meals only. Donāt sip. Minimal snacks between dinner and bed, limit chips, crackers, sugar. Check labels: if any of the first 3 ingredients is any type of sugar, avoid it. Always brush your teeth before bed.

My āwarrantyā was less than 5 years, depending on the reason. Failure isnāt very common. So, you would pay full fee in my office. Surgeons fees would be additional. If less than 5 years, I usually prorate my fees.
The unscrewing takes time. Itās like taking a screw out of cement. Usually the dentist removes the bone around the remaining threads with a thin drill to remove the implant. Since you have lost a lot of bone, yours should be easier. Then the socket has to be cleaned out, graft material placed, and the area stitched closed. When you have a new implant placed, itās the same as the first time, once healing is complete and enough bone has filled the space. (Thatās why I might not have the back tooth removed at this timeāopportunity to optimize bone levels in the space.) If it hasnāt filled in well enough, thatās another story and the surgeon will decide the next steps and discuss with you.
Thank you very much, @dentmom4! Iāll pick up those products. I feel like my daughter and do a lot of home care (multiple brushing and flossing through the day and before bed). Iāll be more diligent re: the sugar.
I had Invisalign for the past 18 months - maybe that contributed although I thought I was being very careful- cleaning a lot!
Thanks again!
Another dentist here (endodontist) just to say @dentmom4ās response is 100% a beautiful and correct answer to the question.
@Joshdent Thanks!
