Any doctors on here? Severe abdominal pains.

^^^^ Wait, Kidney infection in the rainforest? Was this last year? I remember a mom posting about a scenerio like that!~

Wasn’t my mom.

Actually, funny story. I called them from the hospital and then ran out of minutes on my card so I couldn’t call them and tell them I recovered. So all they heard was that their daughter had a kidney infection, while living in a village in the rain forest, and then didn’t hear from her for about 3 weeks. Luckily, my parents aren’t the kind to freak out. When I did call them, they just asked if I was ok and whether or not the hospitals in Puerto Rico were nice (note: I’ve never been to Puerto Rico…).

No, it was in 2010.

I just remember a thread from last summer I believe. And the mom was pretty concerned! If I had not heard from my son, I would have been on a plane…
Glad you did OK with it!

You will be fine with this too…There are so many things it could be. It is likely something easy to treat and/or manage.

Ok, I’m beginning to think it is connected to cheese/dairy more than lettuce

Last night I got sick again. All I really ate yesterday were some cheesy nachos because I didn’t feel well.

Today, I’ve had really bad heartburn for maybe the last hour. The only thing I’ve had today was milk. Still no appetite. Still feel really nauseous.

Guess it’s a good thing you guys convinced me to get an appointment Monday :p

Well, yes, if you want to be nagged about health issues, there’s no better place than a parent forum. We can’t help it. :)

Haha yes. And my parents don’t nag which is why I turn to my surrogate parents.

Lack of nag is probably why I procrastinate on things like this.

I am lactose intolerant and milk is one of the worst things for me. Every L. I. person seems to have different triggers. Young cheeses such as mozzarella are really bad for me. Nacho-type cheese would be a very bad cheese. Best ones are aged such as cheddar or hard cheese such as parmesean. Goat cheese causes no reaction whatsoever. I can eat yogurt, which is a generally a good food for many reasons.

Usually, if you are out-of-network, you will have a co-pay, but can visit an ER. Don’t ever let money stop you from getting medical attention. If, over the weekend, you have a time where you think “I should probably go to the hospital”, GO immediately!

Is it the lettuce or dressing? I had horrible gall bladder pain and your symptoms are similar to classic symptoms, Though mine were a bit different and horrific.

I agree with the walk in center. Also, the ER is there for you as well and can run tests.

Good luck and feel better.

Aren’t you a Spartan??

Yes I’m a Spartan :)! Olin sucks lol.

I don’t think it’s the dressing. My first bad attack was after eating oil and vinegar dressing. Other attacks have been with ranch and even no dressing.

I ate a plain bagel and my stomach feels a bit better. My chest doesn’t feel quite as burny.

Gastroenteritis is another possibility. Not an MD but I’ve had gastroenteritis. My Dr said to avoid anything with fat or protein for a week or two. Again, we can’t diagnose you online but we are thinking of you! Glad you have an appointment.

Get some Tums for the heartburn or even if you have some peppermint candy that helps sometimes.

Start keeping a food/pain diary. Include times too. Your doctor will love you for it since the clues to the mystery may be in there. And if you can, find out if certain trigger ingredients may be in certain foods - dairy in ranch dressing or in chocolate, etc. It may take only a little to have some effect.

Oh, and make sure to tell the doc about your kidney infection. Who knows if there was some strange lingering aftereffect? A friend of mine had what appeared to be a bowel obstruction (scary, because of cancer) and there was a really minor chance it was an infection. “Were you traveling recently”. Ohhhhhh, yeah, but to Austrailia not a rain forest. Well, it was still unfamiliar bacteria over there (at least to his intestines) and that was his problem, not the scary bowel obstruction.

Actually, Gallbladder issues are very common for those who are in their late teens early 20s according to my GI doctor.

I had the same issue. It turned out that not only did i have to stop eating gluten, but also my gallbladder was dying (it was working at like 5% when they discovered it). The pain was pure… hell… It would get so bad that i couldn’t breath.

Of course it took like 6 months to discover what was really going on with me, but yeah, I’m healthy now and do not regret anything. I ended up having the stupid thing removed.

The worst abdominal pain I ever experienced was due to a cyst. Since your pain comes and goes, unlikely that is the problem. Like every other parent here, please go to a good doctor and find out your problem.

Great advice!

^ also include how you are feeling that day. Did you have a headache? put it down.

I just read this, or I would have been screaming at you earlier. In the entire scheme of things, the most important thing is to survive. It doesn’t matter about insurance, or inconvenience, or whatever, if you don’t survive than little else matters. This could be serious, left unattended. So many things are trivial if addressed, but deadly if neglected. Don’t let yourself get blown off. I’m glad you’re going to a doctor tomorrow. Please let us know how it all turns out. But if you don’t get helped, go to an emergency room if you have to and make them do all the tests on you. Please take care of yourself first. Nothing else matters right now.

I know, bd. I’ll do better in the future.

I felt really good today. So… we’ll find out tomorrow morning.

And by that I mean we’ll find out in a while because I know he’s going to refer me to a gastroenterologist and tests.

Great start. It started with their little bmi calculator (using only weight and height) telling me I’m overweight. I’m 6 ft and 190 but I’m an athlete and a size those diet commercials brag about in the after segments. It’s muscle. Mind you, I’m self conscious about my weight because it’s never been what it was supposed to be. High school I was very underweight. Grumble. Lol

I’ll let you guys know what the verdict is.

I’m not dying :)

But in all seriousness it’s most likely a gall bladder issue or less likely, an ulcer. They took blood and gave me a prescription for generic prilosec. I have to go get an ultrasound and I should find out blood results by tomorrow.
