My family is from Rye, which is pretty pricey now but beautifully ignored by the rest of the seacoast. Exeter is a lovely town as well.
I can’t imagine living in Wells or Kittery, the summer people would make me nuts

My brother in law’s (H’s sister’s husband) sister lives in Nashua. She’s lived there for at least 35 years and she really likes it. I had a co worker from New Hampshire who raised her kids there and she is a big booster for the state. She and her husband are planning to move back there when they both retire.
My sister and her husband were both counselors at a summer camp on Lake Winnipesaukee. My BIL started going to camp there when he was 9 or 10, since his single mother worked and needed a place for him in the summer. He didn’t want to go at first, but then went back every summer after and then became a CIT (counselor in training) and then a counselor. My sister (back when she was his girlfriend) was a counselor at the neighboring girls camp (she needed to earn money over the summer when she wasn’t teaching), my BIL was the one who got her the job there. They still meet up with the friends they made there and they’ve gone back to the camp several times over the years. They love New Hampshire, but probably not enough to move there, they like all the stuff that the DC area has to offer.
