I had a GSD mix as a child and she was a wonderful dog. I rescue pits and they too are great family dogs. On the other hand, I have scars from a poodle. I judge based on the dog and not their presumed breed. The reason that I’m not taking in another pit is because, unfortunately, they make our insurance go up and we’re not sure where we’ll be after I’m done with my PhD and I don’t want to have problems moving to a new city with breed restrictions. I hate that it has to be that way, but it is what it is.
I would not be a first time doggie parent and one of my top criteria is that the dog that I adopt has been around young children and is good with them.
For what it’s worth, I have been following this dog and it seems like he was just adopted so it’s a moot point :). I’m still appreciative of all your guys’ advice. We’ll be putting in apps probably starting next weekend after we’re done with wedding and travel season. We didn’t want to get one when we knew we’d be away for a week or so early on in our bonding time. If we’re approved, then we’ll start meeting with pups and go from there.
