Any experience with Brazilian Blowouts?

My experience is as emilybee described. Keratin (stronger, took longer to do, more expensive but supposedly lasts longer- maybe 6 mos, made my eyes burn from the chemicals, couldnt tie hair back or wet it for 3 days). BB was less expensive, less caustic, no restrictions, lasts supposedly only about a month. Dont forget to stay away from shampoos and conditioners with sulfates. Counteracts the benefit of the treatment.

I think the non-sulfate shampoos are recommended after both types.

Sounds like they are the same thing, although either the salon or manufacturer may have adapted the instructions to what they feel works the best.

Typically, whenever you make a structural change to your hair, you wait at least two or three days before washing.
Does the salon recommend you use a sulfate free shampoo?
You should use one for best performance whenver you have chemical processing, including hair color or perm.

And my experience has been just like in the article and my salon even uses the same keratin product as in the article (Juvexin.)

Here’s another explanation of the difference:

"Keratin Complex: After the hair is shampooed, towel dried, and then blow dried to 100% dry, the product is applied lightly, section by section. To let the product fully penetrate the hair shaft, you will wear a cap for 20-30 minutes. The hair is then blow dried and flat ironed, generally at the 450 degree F setting. They’ll use a lower temperature for damaged or over-processed hair. You will leave the salon with the product still in your hair (but your hair looking blow dried and finished), and you must shampoo the product out of your hair at home after three days, all the while avoiding moisture or anything that will leave an impression in your hair. Allow 2-3 hours.

Brazilian Blowout (original and Zero): After the hair is shampooed and towel dried with some moisture remaining, the product is applied lightly, section by section. The hair is then blow dried and flat ironed at 450 degree F. The product will then be rinsed out of your hair thoroughly and an intense moisturizing masque will be applied for a minute. After this, you will be blow dried and good to go. Allow 90 minutes."

Juvexin " only" contains 8.3% formaldehyde.
What a deal!

Thanks for the tips all! I went to the salon I was looking at today for a desperately-needed eyebrow wax. In my experience, the way the salon does eyebrow waxes is a good indicator of their overall services. The stylist who did my brows said she gets BBs (it naturally came up in conversation after she noted how thick my eyebrows were and quipped, “you must have really thick hair!”) She said because my hair is pretty fine in texture she thinks she could work on it without a BB to get it to work. Will go back and really discuss with a stylist before I make any commitments.

BTW, the eyebrow wax came out great. She did a great job and pretty reasonably priced ($15 including a generous tip), and she spent quite a bit of time on me which I really appreciate and enjoy.

I wish I had enough eyebrows to get need them waxed, but then I suppose I would wish I didn’t.
I do have triple thick & long eye lashes though, they just are blond. If I put mascara on them, they get it all over my lenses.

For sulfate free shampoo that works well enough to use all the time and is affordable, you can’t do better than JR Liggetts bar shampoo.

I use Aveda products, Keratin complex or L’oreal Everpure products. Without the sulfates, some don’t lather as much. Just be aware of that, since we tend to expect sudsy shampoo.

Never had a Brazilian blowout, but I got a flat tire on a rental car in Germany a few years ago…

jym–I once bought Burt’s Bees shampoo that hardly lathered at all and I was definitely surprised, but my hair LOVED it!!

eastcoascrazy–LOL.

I think of a Brazilian as removing hair.
Ouch.

This is really confusing–so even if a stylist assures one that a treatment doesn’t have formaldehyde in it, one still can’t be sure because some of these products aren’t labeled correctly?

^ Correct?

Burt’s Bees has good hair products?

Gotta love when you find a good brow stylist. I do my own eyebrows as they’re easily tamed, but my friend swears by her lady!

My cousin’s daughter who has been getting BB’s for years just gave birth today. Baby doesn’t have two heads and has correct amount of fingers and toes.

Oh well then I guess we can do away with the OSHA report.
8-|

That was a typo.

I meant “^ Correct.”

Oops.

Niquii, I used the Burt’s Bees for a couple of months. The shampoo and conditioner both worked really well on my hair but it was pricey for not a ton of product and then I wasn’t able to find it so stopped using it.

And it smelled heavenly.

Maybe I’ll order some on Amazon…

“Oh well then I guess we can do away with the OSHA report.”

Jeesch. I guess you didn’t notice the winky at end of the sentence.

We had Burts bees chapstick. The dog went crazy in love over the smell and ate them! Tried to lock our lips too.

Have you ever tried the " no- poo" method?
