Many, many thanks to all who contributed to this 5 month old thread. With your encouragement and positive experiences, my pipe dream became a reality and I’ve just completed a 5 day stay in Siem Reap. I visited solo as none of my family was free to join me and I loved every minute.
The tour book suggestions were perfect. I spent a couple months studying up on the temples, culture, history, etc. so that when I hired my driver I had an itinerary in mind that included my personal interests.
I was doused with mosquito repellent and saw no mosquitos. Consumer Reports happened to run a survey this summer concluding that Picaridin is the way to go. It certainly seemed to work for me, but I also carried along the DEET as a back-up.
I hope to return with one of my young adults when the work schedules permit. Really a unique experience that I can’t wait to share.
